They replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You were born completely in sinfulness,<n id="2" /> and yet you presume to teach us?&#8221;<n id="3" /> So they threw him out.p>

Many<n id="1" /> came to him and began to say, &#8220;John<n id="2" /> performed<n id="3" /> no miraculous sign, but everything John said about this man<n id="4" /> was true!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">After he said this, he added,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep.<n id="2" /> But I am going there to awaken him.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then many of the people,<n id="1" /> who had come with Mary and had seen the things Jesus<n id="2" /> did, believed in him.

(Now the chief priests and the Pharisees<n id="1" /> had given orders that anyone who knew where Jesus<n id="2" /> was should report it, so that they could arrest<n id="3" /> him.)<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">So the crowd who had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead were continuing to testify about it.<n id="1" />

So these approached Philip,<n id="1" /> who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and requested,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Sir, we would like to see Jesus.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Nevertheless, even among the rulers<n id="1" /> many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees<n id="2" /> they would not confess Jesus to be the Christ,<n id="3" /> so that they would not be put out of<n id="4" /> the synagogue.<n id="5" />

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> the slave<n id="2" /> is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent as a messenger<n id="3" /> greater than the one who sent him.

(Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, knew the place too, because Jesus had met there many times<n id="1" /> with his disciples.)<n id="2" />

They replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Jesus the Nazarene.&#8221; He told them, &#8220;I am he.&#8221; (Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, was standing there with them.)<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Again Pilate went out and said to the Jewish leaders,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no reason for an accusation<n id="2" /> against him.&#8221;

Nicodemus, the man who had previously come to Jesus<n id="1" /> at night,<n id="2" /> accompanied Joseph,<n id="3" /> carrying a mixture of myrrh and aloes<n id="4" /> weighing about seventy-five pounds.<n id="5" />

They said<n id="1" /> to her, &#8220;Woman,<n id="2" /> why are you weeping?&#8221; Mary replied,<n id="3" /> &#8220;They have taken my Lord away, and I do not know where they have put him!&#8221;

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;If I want him to live<n id="2" /> until I come back,<n id="3" /> what concern is that of yours? You follow me!&#8221;

And I did not recognize him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, &#8216;The one on whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining &#8211; this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.&#8217;

Andrew brought Simon<n id="1" /> to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, &#8220;You are Simon, the son of John.<n id="2" /> You will be called Cephas&#8221; (which is translated Peter).<n id="3" />p>

Jesus did this as the first of his miraculous signs,<n id="1" /> in Cana<n id="2" /> of Galilee. In this way he revealed<n id="3" /> his glory, and his disciples believed in him.<n id="4" />p>

Nicodemus said to him, &#8220;How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother&#8217;s womb and be born a second time, can he?&#8221;<n id="1" />p>

<p class="bodytext">For this is the way<n id="1" /> God loved the world: He gave his one and only<n id="2" /> Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish<n id="3" /> but have eternal life.<n id="4" />
