<p class="bodytext">Moses the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s servant and the Israelites defeated them and Moses the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s servant assigned their land<n id="1" /> to Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh.p>

But the Israelites did not conquer<n id="1" /> the Geshurites and Maacathites; Geshur and Maacah live among Israel to this very day.

Their territory included Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half of Ammonite territory<n id="1" /> as far as Aroer near<n id="2" /> Rabbah.

<p class="bodytext">The land allotted to the tribe of Judah by its clans reached to the border of Edom, to the Wilderness of Zin in the Negev far to the south.<n id="1" />

went up to Beth Hoglah, crossed north of Beth Arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.

Caleb drove out<n id="1" /> from there three Anakites &#8211; Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, descendants of Anak.

These cities were located at the southern extremity of Judah&#8217;s tribal land near the border of Edom:<n id="1" /> Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

<t /><p class="bodytext">The land allotted to Joseph&#8217;s descendants extended from the Jordan at Jericho<n id="1" /> to the waters of Jericho to the east, through the desert and on up from Jericho into the hill country of Bethel.<n id="2" />

The territory of the tribe of Ephraim by its clans included the following:<n id="1" /> The border of their assigned land to the east was Ataroth Addar as far as upper Beth Horon.

From Tappuah it went westward to the Valley of Kanah and ended at the sea. This is the land assigned to the tribe of Ephraim<n id="1" /> by its clans.

But the men<n id="1" /> of Manasseh were unable to conquer these cities; the Canaanites managed<n id="2" /> to remain in those areas.

<t /><p class="bodytext">The entire Israelite community assembled at Shiloh and there they set up the tent of meeting.<n id="1" /> Though they had subdued the land,<n id="2" />

Joshua drew lots for them in Shiloh before the <sc>Lordsc> and divided the land among the Israelites according to their allotted portions.p>

It went northward, extending to En Shemesh and Geliloth opposite the Pass<n id="1" /> of Adummim, and descended to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.

Zelah, Haeleph, the Jebusite city<n id="1" /> (that is, Jerusalem),<n id="2" /> Gibeah, and Kiriath &#8211; a total of fourteen cities and their towns.<n id="3" /> This was the land assigned to the tribe of Benjamin<n id="4" /> by its clans.p>

as well as all the towns around these cities as far as Baalath Beer (Ramah of the Negev). This was the land assigned to the tribe of Simeon by its clans.<n id="1" />

&#8220;Have the Israelites select<n id="1" /> the cities of refuge<n id="2" /> that I told you about through Moses.

So the Israelites assigned these cities and their grazing areas to the Levites from their own holdings, as the <sc>Lordsc> had instructed.p>

The rest of Kohath&#8217;s descendants were allotted ten cities from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, and from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

Gershon&#8217;s descendants were allotted thirteen cities from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, and from the tribes of Asher and Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
