<p class="poetry">For wisdom provides<n id="1" /> protection,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">just as<n id="3" /> money provides protection.<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">But the advantage of knowledge is this:p> <p class="poetry">Wisdom preserves the life<n id="5" /> of its owner.p>

At that time<n id="1" /> a man will keep alive a young cow from the herd and a couple of goats.

<n id="1" /> Isaiah ordered, &#8220;Let them take a fig cake and apply it to the ulcerated sore and he will get well.&#8221;

<p class="lamhebrew">&#1512; (<i>Reshi>)p> <p class="poetry">Our very life breath &#8211; the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s anointed king<n id="1" /> &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">was caught in their traps,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">of whom we thought,<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Under his protection<n id="4" /> we will survive among the nations.&#8221;p>

None of the sins he has committed will be held<n id="1" /> against him; because of the righteousness he has done, he will live.

Do I actually delight in the death of the wicked, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>? Do I not prefer that he turn from his wicked conduct and live?p>

When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will preserve his life.

For I take no delight in the death of anyone,<n id="1" /> declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>. Repent and live!p>

I also gave<n id="1" /> them decrees<n id="2" /> which were not good and regulations by which they could not live.

When the wicked turns from his sin and does what is just and right, he will live because of it.

He said to me, &#8220;Son of man, can these bones live?&#8221; I said to him, &#8220;Sovereign Lord, you know.&#8221;

This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says to these bones: Look, I am about to infuse breath<n id="1" /> into you and you will live.

<p class="poetry">People will reside again<n id="1" /> in his shade;p> <p class="poetry">they will plant and harvest grain in abundance.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">They will blossom like a vine,p> <p class="poetry">and his fame will be like the wine from Lebanon.p>

<p class="poetry">Look, the one whose desires are not upright will faint from exhaustion,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">but the person of integrity<n id="2" /> will live<n id="3" /> because of his faithfulness.<n id="4" />p>

So he humbled you by making you hungry and then feeding you with unfamiliar manna.<n id="1" /> He did this to teach you<n id="2" /> that humankind<n id="3" /> cannot live by bread<n id="4" /> alone, but also by everything that comes from the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s mouth.<n id="5" />

If we go into the city, we&#8217;ll die of starvation,<n id="1" /> and if we stay here we&#8217;ll die! So come on, let&#8217;s defect<n id="2" /> to the Syrian camp! If they spare us,<n id="3" /> we&#8217;ll live; if they kill us &#8211; well, we were going to die anyway.&#8221;<n id="4" />

<p class="poetry">For this is what the high and exalted one says,p> <p class="poetry">the one who rules<n id="1" /> forever, whose name is holy:p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;I dwell in an exalted and holy place,p> <p class="poetry">but also with the discouraged and humiliated,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">in order to cheer up the humiliatedp> <p class="poetry">and to encourage the discouraged.<n id="3" />p>

&#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> says, &#8216;Those who stay in this city will die in battle or of starvation or disease.<n id="1" /> Those who leave the city and surrender to the Babylonians<n id="2" /> will live. They will escape with their lives.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc>, the God who rules over all, the God of Israel,<n id="1" /> says, &#8216;You must surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon. If you do, your life will be spared<n id="2" /> and this city will not be burned down. Indeed, you and your whole family will be spared.

and say &#8216;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: Woe to those who sew bands<n id="1" /> on all their wrists<n id="2" /> and make headbands<n id="3" /> for heads of every size to entrap people&#8217;s lives!<n id="4" /> Will you entrap my people&#8217;s lives, yet preserve your own lives?
