So Saul mustered all his army to go down to Keilah and besiege David and his men.<n id="1" />p>

David stayed in the strongholds that were in the desert and in the hill country of the desert of Ziph. Saul looked for him all the time,<n id="1" /> but God did not deliver David<n id="2" /> into his hand.

So Saul took three thousand select men from all Israel and went to find<n id="1" /> David and his men in the region of<n id="2" /> the rocks of the mountain goats.<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned him. They buried him at his home in Ramah. Then David left and went down to the desert of Paran.<n id="1" />p>

These men were very good to us. They did not insult us, nor did we sustain any loss during the entire time we were together<n id="1" /> in the field.

Both night and day they were a protective wall for us the entire time we were with them, while we were tending our flocks.

Now be aware of this, and see what you can do. For disaster has been planned for our lord and his entire household.<n id="1" /> He is such a wicked person<n id="2" /> that no one tells him anything!&#8221;p>

God will severely punish David,<n id="1" /> if I leave alive until morning even one male<n id="2" /> from all those who belong to him!&#8221;p>

The <sc>Lordsc> will do for my lord everything that he promised you,<n id="1" /> and he will make<n id="2" /> you a leader over Israel.

In the same way that I valued your life this day,<n id="1" /> may the <sc>Lordsc> value my life<n id="2" /> and deliver me from all danger.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had lamented over him and had buried him in Ramah, his hometown.<n id="1" /> In the meantime Saul had removed the mediums<n id="2" /> and magicians<n id="3" /> from the land.

David took all the flocks and herds and drove them in front of the rest of the animals. People were saying, &#8220;This is David&#8217;s plunder!&#8221;p>

She made a vow saying, &#8220;O <sc>Lordsc> of hosts, if you will look with compassion<n id="1" /> on the suffering of your female servant,<n id="2" /> remembering me and not forgetting your servant, and give a male child<n id="3" /> to your servant, then I will dedicate him to the <sc>Lordsc> all the days of his life. His hair will never be cut.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

Everyone who remains in your house will come to bow before him for a little money<n id="1" /> and for a scrap of bread. Each will say, &#8216;Assign me to a priestly task so I can eat a scrap of bread.&#8217;&#8221;p>

Eli<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;What message did he speak to you? Don&#8217;t conceal it from me. God will judge you severely<n id="2" /> if you conceal from me anything that he said to you!&#8221;p>

When he arrived in Shiloh, Eli was sitting in his chair watching by the side of<n id="1" /> the road, for he was very worried<n id="2" /> about the ark of God. As the man entered the city to give his report,<n id="3" /> the whole city cried out.p>

<p class="bodytext">So they assembled<n id="1" /> all the leaders of the Philistines and asked, &#8220;What should we do with the ark of the God of Israel?&#8221; They replied, &#8220;The ark of the God of Israel should be moved to Gath.&#8221; So they moved the ark of the God of Israel.p>

They inquired, &#8220;What is the guilt offering that we should send to him?&#8221;p> <p class="bodytext">They replied, &#8220;The Philistine leaders number five. So send five gold sores and five gold mice, for it is the same plague that has afflicted both you and your leaders.

The gold mice corresponded in number to all the Philistine cities of the five leaders, from the fortified cities to hamlet villages, to greater Abel,<n id="1" /> where they positioned the ark of the <sc>Lordsc> until this very day in the field of Joshua who was from Beth Shemesh.p>

The <sc>Lordsc> said to Samuel, &#8220;Do everything the people request of you.<n id="1" /> For it is not you that they have rejected, but it is me that they have rejected as their king.
