And Balaam ¹  said to Balak, “Station yourself here ²  by your burnt offering, while I meet the Lord there.

Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all ¹  nor bless them at all!” ² 

the oracle of the one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty, although falling flat on the ground ¹  with eyes open: ² 

So now, go back where you came from! ¹  I said that I would greatly honor you; but now the Lord has stood in the way of your honor.”

¹ When ²  Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to commit sexual immorality ³  with the daughters of Moab.

So Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you must execute those of his men ¹  who were joined to Baal-peor.”

When you have seen it, you will be gathered ¹  to your ancestors, ²  as Aaron your brother was gathered to his ancestors. ³ 

“Exact vengeance ¹  for the Israelites on the Midianites ²  – after that you will be gathered to your people.” ³ 

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the community went out to meet them outside the camp.

You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you will be ceremonially clean, and afterward you may enter the camp.’”

Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders over thousands and the commanders over hundreds, approached Moses

We will not return to our homes until every Israelite has his inheritance.

The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho. He said:

¹ Then the Lord spoke to Moses in the Moabite plains by the Jordan near Jericho. ²  He said:

¹ The Lord said to Moses, “Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know are elders of the people and officials ²  over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting; let them take their position there with you.

They came back ¹  to Moses and Aaron and to the whole community of the Israelites in the wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. ²  They reported ³  to the whole community and showed the fruit of the land.

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take the censer, put burning coals from the altar in it, place incense on it, and go quickly into the assembly and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone out from the Lord – the plague has begun!”

Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough ¹  to show me as holy ²  before ³  the Israelites, therefore you will not bring this community into the land I have given them.” ⁴ 

“Aaron will be gathered to his ancestors, ¹  for he will not enter into the land I have given to the Israelites because both of you ²  rebelled against my word ³  at the waters of Meribah.

Then the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord that he would take away ¹  the snakes from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
