Now the Jewish feast of Passover<n id="1" /> was near, and many people went up to Jerusalem<n id="2" /> from the rural areas before the Passover to cleanse themselves ritually.<n id="3" />

(Now the chief priests and the Pharisees<n id="1" /> had given orders that anyone who knew where Jesus<n id="2" /> was should report it, so that they could arrest<n id="3" /> him.)<n id="4" />p>

So they prepared a dinner for Jesus<n id="1" /> there. Martha<n id="2" /> was serving, and Lazarus was among those present at the table<n id="3" /> with him.

(Now Judas<n id="1" /> said this not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief. As keeper of the money box,<n id="2" /> he used to steal what was put into it.)<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">But Jesus shouted out,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The one who believes in me does not believe in me, but in the one who sent me,<n id="2" />

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You do not understand<n id="2" /> what I am doing now, but you will understand<n id="3" /> after these things.&#8221;

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> whoever accepts<n id="2" /> the one I send accepts me, and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Simon Peter said to him, &#8220;Lord, where are you going?&#8221; Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.&#8221;

There are many dwelling places<n id="1" /> in my Father&#8217;s house.<n id="2" /> Otherwise, I would have told you, because<n id="3" /> I am going away to make ready<n id="4" /> a place for you.<n id="5" />

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me,<n id="1" /> believe because of the miraculous deeds<n id="2" /> themselves.

In a little while<n id="1" /> the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin.<n id="1" /> But they no longer have any excuse for their sin.

Now this<n id="1" /> is eternal life<n id="2" /> &#8211; that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ,<n id="3" /> whom you sent.

But now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world, so they may experience<n id="1" /> my joy completed<n id="2" /> in themselves.

Righteous Father, even if the world does not know you, I know you, and these men<n id="1" /> know that you sent me.

(Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, knew the place too, because Jesus had met there many times<n id="1" /> with his disciples.)<n id="2" />

They replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Jesus the Nazarene.&#8221; He told them, &#8220;I am he.&#8221; (Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, was standing there with them.)<n id="2" />

When Jesus<n id="1" /> had said this, one of the high priest&#8217;s officers who stood nearby struck him on the face and said,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Is that the way you answer the high priest?&#8221;

But it is your custom that I release one prisoner<n id="1" /> for you at the Passover.<n id="2" /> So do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?&#8221;

and he went back into the governor&#8217;s residence<n id="1" /> and said to Jesus, &#8220;Where do you come from?&#8221; But Jesus gave him no answer.
