Don&#8217;t the scriptures say that the Christ is <i>a descendanti><n id="1" /> <i>of Davidi><n id="2" /> and <i>comes from Bethlehemi>,<n id="3" /> the village where David lived?&#8221;<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then the officers<n id="1" /> returned<n id="2" /> to the chief priests and Pharisees,<n id="3" /> who said to them, &#8220;Why didn&#8217;t you bring him back with you?&#8221;<n id="4" />

They replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You aren&#8217;t from Galilee too, are you?<n id="2" /> Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet<n id="3" /> comes from Galilee!&#8221;p>

But if I judge, my evaluation is accurate,<n id="1" /> because I am not alone when I judge,<n id="2" /> but I and the Father who sent me do so together.<n id="3" />

So the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> began to say,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Perhaps he is going to kill himself, because he says, &#8216;Where I am going you cannot come.&#8217;&#8221;

And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone,<n id="1" /> because I always do those things that please him.&#8221;

I know that you are Abraham&#8217;s descendants.<n id="1" /> But you want<n id="2" /> to kill me, because my teaching<n id="3" /> makes no progress among you.<n id="4" />

But now you are trying<n id="1" /> to kill me, a man who has told you<n id="2" /> the truth I heard from God. Abraham did not do this!<n id="3" />

You people<n id="1" /> are doing the deeds of your father.&#8221;p> <p class="bodytext">Then<n id="2" /> they said to Jesus,<n id="3" /> &#8220;We were not born as a result of immorality!<n id="4" /> We have only one Father, God himself.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">The Judeans<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Aren&#8217;t we correct in saying<n id="3" /> that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?&#8221;<n id="4" />

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> if anyone obeys<n id="2" /> my teaching,<n id="3" /> he will never see death.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Then the neighbors and the people who had seen him previously<n id="1" /> as a beggar began saying,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Is this not the man<n id="3" /> who used to sit and beg?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Now the Jewish religious leaders<n id="1" /> refused to believe<n id="2" /> that he had really been blind and had gained his sight until at last they summoned<n id="3" /> the parents of the man who had become able to see.<n id="4" />

He replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I do not know whether he is a sinner. I do know one thing &#8211; that although I was blind, now I can see.&#8221;

He answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I told you already and you didn&#8217;t listen.<n id="2" /> Why do you want to hear it<n id="3" /> again? You people<n id="4" /> don&#8217;t want to become his disciples too, do you?&#8221;p>

We know that God doesn&#8217;t listen to<n id="1" /> sinners, but if anyone is devout<n id="2" /> and does his will, God<n id="3" /> listens to<n id="4" /> him.<n id="5" />

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin,<n id="2" /> but now because you claim that you can see,<n id="3" /> your guilt<n id="4" /> remains.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

Jesus told them this parable,<n id="1" /> but they<n id="2" /> did not understand<n id="3" /> what he was saying to them.p>

The thief comes only to steal and kill<n id="1" /> and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.<n id="2" />p>

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;We are not going to stone you for a good deed<n id="3" /> but for blasphemy,<n id="4" /> because<n id="5" /> you, a man, are claiming to be God.&#8221;<n id="6" />p>
