Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is approaching, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

But<n id="1" /> one of those with Jesus grabbed<n id="2" /> his sword, drew it out, and struck the high priest&#8217;s slave,<n id="3" /> cutting off his ear.

<t /><p class="bodytext">When<n id="1" /> Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but that instead a riot was starting, he took some water, washed his hands before the crowd and said, &#8220;I am innocent of this man&#8217;s blood. You take care of it yourselves!&#8221;<n id="2" />

The Pharisees and the experts in the law asked him, &#8220;Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat<n id="1" /> with unwashed hands?&#8221;

for he was teaching his disciples and telling them, &#8220;The Son of Man will be betrayed into the hands of men.<n id="1" /> They<n id="2" /> will kill him,<n id="3" /> and after three days he will rise.&#8221;<n id="4" />

All<n id="1" /> who heard these things<n id="2" /> kept them in their hearts,<n id="3" /> saying, &#8220;What then will this child be?&#8221;<n id="4" /> For the Lord&#8217;s hand<n id="5" /> was indeed with him.p>

His winnowing fork<n id="1" /> is in his hand to clean out his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his storehouse,<n id="2" /> but the chaff he will burn up with inextinguishable fire.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">As the sun was setting, all those who had any relatives<n id="1" /> sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus.<n id="2" /> He placed<n id="3" /> his hands on every one of them and healed them.

<t /><p class="bodytext">On<n id="1" /> another Sabbath, Jesus<n id="2" /> entered the synagogue<n id="3" /> and was teaching. Now<n id="4" /> a man was there whose right hand was withered.<n id="5" />

But<n id="1" /> he knew<n id="2" /> their thoughts,<n id="3" /> and said to the man who had the withered hand, &#8220;Get up and stand here.&#8221;<n id="4" /> So<n id="5" /> he rose and stood there.

Jesus<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;No one who puts his<n id="2" /> hand to the plow and looks back<n id="3" /> is fit for the kingdom of God.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

But the father said to his slaves,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Hurry! Bring the best robe,<n id="2" /> and put it on him! Put a ring on his finger<n id="3" /> and sandals<n id="4" /> on his feet!

Then<n id="1" /> the experts in the law<n id="2" /> and the chief priests wanted to arrest<n id="3" /> him that very hour, because they realized he had told this parable against them. But<n id="4" /> they were afraid of the people.p>

But before all this,<n id="1" /> they will seize<n id="2" /> you and persecute you, handing you over to the synagogues<n id="3" /> and prisons. You<n id="4" /> will be brought before kings and governors because of my name.

Day after day when I was with you in the temple courts,<n id="1" /> you did not arrest me.<n id="2" /> But this is your hour,<n id="3" /> and that of the power<n id="4" /> of darkness!&#8221;p>

Look at my hands and my feet; it&#8217;s me!<n id="1" /> Touch me and see; a ghost<n id="2" /> does not have flesh and bones like you see I have.&#8221;

The one who had died came out, his feet and hands tied up with strips of cloth,<n id="1" /> and a cloth wrapped around his face.<n id="2" /> Jesus said to them, &#8220;Unwrap him<n id="3" /> and let him go.&#8221;p>

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> when you were young, you tied your clothes around you<n id="2" /> and went wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will tie you up<n id="3" /> and bring you where you do not want to go.&#8221;

This same<n id="1" /> Moses they had rejected, saying, &#8216;<b><i>Who made you a ruler and judge?i>b>&#8217;<n id="2" /> God sent as both ruler and deliverer<n id="3" /> through the hand of the angel<n id="4" /> who appeared to him in the bush.

When<n id="1" /> Peter came to himself, he said, &#8220;Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued<n id="2" /> me from the hand<n id="3" /> of Herod<n id="4" /> and from everything the Jewish people<n id="5" /> were expecting to happen.&#8221;p>
