<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> they said to him, &#8220;John&#8217;s<n id="2" /> disciples frequently fast<n id="3" /> and pray,<n id="4" /> and so do the disciples of the Pharisees,<n id="5" /> but yours continue to eat and drink.&#8221;<n id="6" />

and sent them to Jesus<n id="1" /> to ask,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Are you the one who is to come,<n id="3" /> or should we look for another?&#8221;

Those<n id="1" /> on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while,<n id="2" /> but<n id="3" /> in a time of testing<n id="4" /> fall away.<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">One<n id="1" /> day Jesus<n id="2" /> got into a boat<n id="3" /> with his disciples and said to them, &#8220;Let&#8217;s go across to the other side of the lake.&#8221; So<n id="4" /> they set out,

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Where is your faith?&#8221;<n id="2" /> But they were afraid and amazed,<n id="3" /> saying to one another, &#8220;Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the water,<n id="4" /> and they obey him!&#8221;p>

So<n id="1" /> the people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus. They<n id="2" /> found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus&#8217; feet, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.

Jesus answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You<n id="2" /> unbelieving<n id="3" /> and perverse generation! How much longer<n id="4" /> must I be with you and endure<n id="5" /> you?<n id="6" /> Bring your son here.&#8221;

Jesus<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;No one who puts his<n id="2" /> hand to the plow and looks back<n id="3" /> is fit for the kingdom of God.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

He<n id="1" /> said to them, &#8220;The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest<n id="2" /> to send out<n id="3" /> workers into his harvest.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> was praying in a certain place. When<n id="3" /> he stopped, one of his disciples said to him, &#8220;Lord, teach us to pray, just as John<n id="4" /> taught<n id="5" /> his disciples.&#8221;

But the Lord said to him, &#8220;Now you Pharisees clean<n id="1" /> the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Meanwhile,<n id="1" /> when many thousands of the crowd had gathered so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus<n id="2" /> began to speak first to his disciples, &#8220;Be on your guard against<n id="3" /> the yeast of the Pharisees,<n id="4" /> which is hypocrisy.<n id="5" />

So then<n id="1" /> whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered<n id="2" /> in private rooms<n id="3" /> will be proclaimed from the housetops.<n id="4" />p>

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Watch out and guard yourself from<n id="2" /> all types of greed,<n id="3" /> because one&#8217;s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to his<n id="3" /> disciples, &#8220;Therefore I tell you, do not worry<n id="4" /> about your<n id="5" /> life, what you will eat, or about your<n id="6" /> body, what you will wear.

So<n id="1" /> he said to the worker who tended the vineyard, &#8216;For<n id="2" /> three years<n id="3" /> now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and each time I inspect it<n id="4" /> I find none. Cut<n id="5" /> it down! Why<n id="6" /> should it continue to deplete<n id="7" /> the soil?&#8217;

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,<n id="1" /> you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you!<n id="2" /> How often I have longed<n id="3" /> to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but<n id="4" /> you would have none of it!<n id="5" />

So<n id="1" /> he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way from home<n id="2" /> his father saw him, and his heart went out to him;<n id="3" /> he ran and hugged<n id="4" /> his son<n id="5" /> and kissed him.

But the father said to his slaves,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Hurry! Bring the best robe,<n id="2" /> and put it on him! Put a ring on his finger<n id="3" /> and sandals<n id="4" /> on his feet!

<t /><p class="bodytext">Jesus<n id="1" /> also said to the disciples, &#8220;There was a rich man who was informed of accusations<n id="2" /> that his manager<n id="3" /> was wasting<n id="4" /> his assets.
