But Jesus was silent. The<n id="1" /> high priest said to him, &#8220;I charge you under oath by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ,<n id="2" /> the Son of God.&#8221;

After<n id="1" /> a little while, those standing there came up to Peter and said, &#8220;You really are one of them too &#8211; even your accent<n id="2" /> gives you away!&#8221;

Then<n id="1" /> he cried out with a loud voice, &#8220;Leave me alone,<n id="2" /> Jesus, Son of the Most High God! I implore you by God<n id="3" /> &#8211; do not torment me!&#8221;

But<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> did not permit him to do so. Instead, he said to him, &#8220;Go to your home and to your people and tell them what the Lord has done for you,<n id="3" /> that he had mercy on you.&#8221;

The<n id="1" /> angel answered him, &#8220;I am Gabriel, who stands<n id="2" /> in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring<n id="3" /> you this good news.

The angel replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow<n id="2" /> you. Therefore the child<n id="3" /> to be born<n id="4" /> will be holy;<n id="5" /> he will be called the Son of God.p>

When<n id="1" /> his parents<n id="2" /> saw him, they were overwhelmed. His<n id="3" /> mother said to him, &#8220;Child,<n id="4" /> why have you treated<n id="5" /> us like this? Look, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously.&#8221;<n id="6" />

When<n id="1" /> the men came to Jesus,<n id="2" /> they said, &#8220;John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask,<n id="3" /> &#8216;Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?&#8217;&#8221;<n id="4" />

Then<n id="1" /> Jesus asked,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Who was it who touched me?&#8221; When they all denied it, Peter<n id="3" /> said, &#8220;Master, the crowds are surrounding you and pressing<n id="4" /> against you!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">As<n id="1" /> he said these things, a woman in the crowd spoke out<n id="2" /> to him, &#8220;Blessed is the womb<n id="3" /> that bore you and the breasts at which you nursed!&#8221;<n id="4" />

If<n id="1" /> then<n id="2" /> your whole body is full of light, with no part in the dark,<n id="3" /> it will be as full of light as when the light of a lamp shines on you.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

But when you are invited, go and take the least important place, so that when your host<n id="1" /> approaches he will say to you, &#8216;Friend, move up here to a better place.&#8217;<n id="2" /> Then you will be honored in the presence of all who share the meal with you.

But one after another they all<n id="1" /> began to make excuses.<n id="2" /> The first said to him, &#8216;I have bought a field,<n id="3" /> and I must go out and see it. Please excuse me.&#8217;<n id="4" />

The king<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8216;I will judge you by your own words,<n id="2" /> you wicked slave!<n id="3" /> So you knew, did you, that I was a severe<n id="4" /> man, withdrawing what I didn&#8217;t deposit and reaping what I didn&#8217;t sow?

They will demolish you<n id="1" /> &#8211; you and your children within your walls<n id="2" /> &#8211; and they will not leave within you one stone<n id="3" /> on top of another,<n id="4" /> because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

Peter said to him, &#8220;You will never wash my feet!&#8221;<n id="1" /> Jesus replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.&#8221;<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">When Jesus had finished saying these things, he looked upward<n id="1" /> to heaven<n id="2" /> and said, &#8220;Father, the time<n id="3" /> has come. Glorify your Son, so that your<n id="4" /> Son may glorify you &#8211;

I<n id="1" /> am no longer in the world, but<n id="2" /> they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe<n id="3" /> in your name<n id="4" /> that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one.<n id="5" />

One of the high priest&#8217;s slaves,<n id="1" /> a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off,<n id="2" /> said, &#8220;Did I not see you in the orchard<n id="3" /> with him?&#8221;<n id="4" />

Jesus<n id="1" /> said<n id="2" /> a second time, &#8220;Simon, son of John, do you love me?&#8221; He replied,<n id="3" /> &#8220;Yes, Lord, you know I love you.&#8221; Jesus<n id="4" /> told him, &#8220;Shepherd my sheep.&#8221;
