So Philip ran up<n id="1" /> to it<n id="2" /> and heard the man<n id="3" /> reading Isaiah the prophet. He<n id="4" /> asked him,<n id="5" /> &#8220;Do you understand what you&#8217;re reading?&#8221;

The man<n id="1" /> replied, &#8220;How in the world can I,<n id="2" /> unless someone guides me?&#8221; So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

So Philip started speaking,<n id="1" /> and beginning with this scripture<n id="2" /> proclaimed the good news about Jesus to him.

He<n id="1" /> was a devout, God-fearing man,<n id="2" /> as was all his household; he did many acts of charity for the people<n id="3" /> and prayed to God regularly.

He<n id="1" /> saw heaven<n id="2" /> opened<n id="3" /> and an object something like a large sheet<n id="4" /> descending,<n id="5" /> being let down to earth<n id="6" /> by its four corners.

So when<n id="1" /> Peter came in, Cornelius met<n id="2" /> him, fell<n id="3" /> at his feet, and worshiped<n id="4" /> him.

About him all the prophets testify,<n id="1" /> that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins<n id="2" /> through his name.&#8221;p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on<n id="1" /> all those who heard the message.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles too had accepted<n id="1" /> the word of God.<n id="2" />

When they heard this,<n id="1" /> they ceased their objections<n id="2" /> and praised<n id="3" /> God, saying, &#8220;So then, God has granted the repentance<n id="4" /> that leads to life even to the Gentiles.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

But there were some men from Cyprus<n id="1" /> and Cyrene<n id="2" /> among them who came<n id="3" /> to Antioch<n id="4" /> and began to speak to the Greeks<n id="5" /> too, proclaiming the good news of the Lord Jesus.

So Peter was kept in prison, but those in the church were earnestly<n id="1" /> praying to God for him.<n id="2" />

When<n id="1" /> they arrived<n id="2" /> in Salamis,<n id="3" /> they began to proclaim<n id="4" /> the word of God in the Jewish synagogues.<n id="5" /> (Now they also had John<n id="6" /> as their assistant.)<n id="7" />

who was with the proconsul<n id="1" /> Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. The proconsul<n id="2" /> summoned<n id="3" /> Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear<n id="4" /> the word of God.

But the magician Elymas<n id="1" /> (for that is the way his name is translated)<n id="2" /> opposed them, trying to turn the proconsul<n id="3" /> away from the faith.

So Paul stood up,<n id="1" /> gestured<n id="2" /> with his hand and said,p> <p class="bodytext">&#8220;Men of Israel,<n id="3" /> and you Gentiles who fear God,<n id="4" /> listen:

Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled<n id="1" /> forty years.

Brothers,<n id="1" /> descendants<n id="2" /> of Abraham&#8217;s family,<n id="3" /> and those Gentiles among you who fear God,<n id="4" /> the message<n id="5" /> of this salvation has been sent to us.

and<n id="1" /> for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied<n id="2" /> him from Galilee to Jerusalem. These<n id="3" /> are now his witnesses to the people.

When the Gentiles heard this, they began to rejoice<n id="1" /> and praise<n id="2" /> the word of the Lord, and all who had been appointed for eternal life<n id="3" /> believed.
