Then he will answer them,<n id="1" /> &#8216;I tell you the truth,<n id="2" /> just as you did not do it for one of the least of these, you did not do it for me.&#8217;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now on the first day of the feast of<n id="1" /> Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and said,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?&#8221;<n id="3" />

But this has happened so that<n id="1" /> the scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled.&#8221; Then all the disciples left him and fled.p>

But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest&#8217;s courtyard. After<n id="1" /> going in, he sat with the guards<n id="2" /> to see the outcome.

The<n id="1" /> governor asked them, &#8220;Which of the two do you want me to release for you?&#8221; And they said, &#8220;Barabbas!&#8221;

Above<n id="1" /> his head they put the charge against him,<n id="2" /> which read:<n id="3" /> &#8220;This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.&#8221;

(They<n id="1" /> came out of the tombs after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.)

Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.p>

<p class="bodytext">When Herod<n id="1" /> saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he became enraged. He sent men<n id="2" /> to kill all the children in Bethlehem<n id="3" /> and throughout the surrounding region from the age of two and under, according to the time he had learned from the wise men.

He said, &#8220;Yes.&#8221; When Peter came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first,<n id="1" /> &#8220;What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly kings collect tolls or taxes &#8211; from their sons<n id="2" /> or from foreigners?&#8221;

For there are some eunuchs who were that way from birth,<n id="1" /> and some who were made eunuchs<n id="2" /> by others,<n id="3" /> and some who became eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who is able to accept this should accept it.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">But when he saw many Pharisees<n id="1" /> and Sadducees<n id="2" /> coming to his baptism, he said to them, &#8220;You offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

and don&#8217;t think you can say to yourselves, &#8216;We have Abraham as our father.&#8217; For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;You are the salt<n id="1" /> of the earth. But if salt loses its flavor,<n id="2" /> how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled on by people.

In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.p>

If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into hell.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;Be<n id="1" /> careful not to display your righteousness merely to be seen by people.<n id="2" /> Otherwise you have no reward with your Father in heaven.

Thus whenever you do charitable giving,<n id="1" /> do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues<n id="2" /> and on streets so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth,<n id="3" /> they have their reward.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues<n id="1" /> and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.

Do not give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls before pigs; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and turn around and tear you to pieces.<n id="1" />p>
