He said, &#8220;What pledge should I give you?&#8221; She replied, &#8220;Your seal, your cord, and the staff that&#8217;s in your hand.&#8221; So he gave them to her and had sex with her.<n id="1" /> She became pregnant by him.

But the <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Put out your hand and grab it by the tail&#8221; &#8211; so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand<n id="1" /> &#8211;

Then Moses took<n id="1" /> his wife and sons<n id="2" /> and put them on a donkey and headed back<n id="3" /> to the land of Egypt, and Moses took the staff of God in his hand.

Go to Pharaoh in the morning when<n id="1" /> he goes out to the water. Position yourself<n id="2" /> to meet him by the edge of the Nile,<n id="3" /> and take<n id="4" /> in your hand the staff<n id="5" /> that was turned into a snake.

And as for you,<n id="1" /> lift up your staff and extend your hand toward the sea and divide it, so that<n id="2" /> the Israelites may go through the middle of the sea on dry ground.

<p class="bodytext">Moses said to the Israelites, &#8220;See, the <sc>Lordsc> has chosen<n id="1" /> Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.

Now Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything that the <sc>Lordsc> had commanded Moses;

and with him was Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an artisan, a designer, and an embroiderer in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen.p>

The Israelite woman&#8217;s son misused the Name and cursed,<n id="1" /> so they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother&#8217;s name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)

When I break off your supply of bread,<n id="1" /> ten women will bake your bread in one oven; they will ration your bread by weight,<n id="2" /> and you will eat and not be satisfied.p>

&#8220;Only the tribe of Levi<n id="1" /> you must not number<n id="2" /> or count<n id="3" /> with<n id="4" /> the other Israelites.

Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of their clans,<n id="1" /> made an offering. They were the leaders of the tribes; they were the ones who had been supervising<n id="2" /> the numbering.

And the staff of the man whom I choose will blossom; so I will rid myself of the complaints of the Israelites, which they murmur against you.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Bring with you your brothers, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, so that they may join<n id="1" /> with you and minister to you while<n id="2" /> you and your sons with you are before the tent of the testimony.

Then Moses raised his hand, and struck the rock twice with his staff. And water came out abundantly. So the community drank, and their beasts drank too.p>

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Moses told the leaders<n id="2" /> of the tribes concerning the Israelites, &#8220;This is what<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc> has commanded:

<t /><p class="bodytext">So Moses sent them to the war, one thousand from every tribe, with Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, who was in charge<n id="1" /> of the holy articles<n id="2" /> and the signal trumpets.

<p class="bodytext">So Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua son of Nun, and to the heads of the families of the Israelite tribes.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then Moses gave a ruling<n id="1" /> to the Israelites by the word<n id="2" /> of the <sc>Lordsc>: &#8220;What the tribe of the Josephites is saying is right.

This is what<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> has commanded for Zelophehad&#8217;s daughters: &#8216;Let them marry<n id="2" /> whomever they think best,<n id="3" /> only they must marry within the family of their father&#8217;s tribe.
