Isaac reopened<n id="1" /> the wells that had been dug<n id="2" /> back in the days of his father Abraham, for the Philistines had stopped them up<n id="3" /> after Abraham died. Isaac<n id="4" /> gave these wells<n id="5" /> the same names his father had given them.<n id="6" />p>

I am the God of Bethel,<n id="1" /> where you anointed<n id="2" /> the sacred stone and made a vow to me.<n id="3" /> Now leave this land immediately<n id="4" /> and return to your native land.&#8217;&#8221;p>

He took<n id="1" /> away all the livestock he had acquired in Paddan Aram and all his moveable property that he had accumulated. Then he set out toward the land of Canaan to return to his father Isaac.<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Laban replied<n id="1" /> to Jacob, &#8220;These women<n id="2" /> are my daughters, these children are my grandchildren,<n id="3" /> and these flocks are my flocks. All that you see belongs to me. But how can I harm these daughters of mine today<n id="4" /> or the children to whom they have given birth?

Let my lord go on ahead of his servant. I will travel more slowly, at the pace of the herds and the children,<n id="1" /> until I come to my lord at Seir.&#8221;p>

From the time<n id="1" /> Potiphar<n id="2" /> appointed him over his household and over all that he owned, the <sc>Lordsc> blessed<n id="3" /> the Egyptian&#8217;s household for Joseph&#8217;s sake. The blessing of the <sc>Lordsc> was on everything that he had, both<n id="4" /> in his house and in his fields.<n id="5" />

So Potiphar<n id="1" /> left<n id="2" /> everything he had in Joseph&#8217;s care;<n id="3" /> he gave no thought<n id="4" /> to anything except the food he ate.<n id="5" />p> <p class="bodytext">Now Joseph was well built and good-looking.<n id="6" />

The warden put all the prisoners under Joseph&#8217;s care. He was in charge of whatever they were doing.<n id="1" />

Both of them, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream<n id="1" /> the same night.<n id="2" /> Each man&#8217;s dream had its own meaning.<n id="3" />

Joseph<n id="1" /> collected all the excess food<n id="2" /> in the land of Egypt during the seven years and stored it in the cities.<n id="3" /> In every city he put the food gathered from the fields around it.

<t /><p class="bodytext">He instructed the servant who was over his household, &#8220;Fill the sacks of the men with as much food as they can carry and put each man&#8217;s money in the mouth of his sack.

But when they related to him everything Joseph had said to them,<n id="1" /> and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to transport him, their father Jacob&#8217;s spirit revived.

The land produced vegetation &#8211; plants yielding seeds according to their kinds, and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. God saw that it was good.

<p class="bodytext">God saw all that he had made &#8211; and it was very good!<n id="1" /> There was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day.p>

God blessed the seventh day and made it holy<n id="1" /> because on it he ceased all the work that he<n id="2" /> had been doing in creation.<n id="3" />p>

Then the <sc>Lordsc> God made<n id="1" /> a woman from the part he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard God said, &#8216;You must not eat from it, and you must not touch it,<n id="1" /> or else you will die.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />

And the <sc>Lordsc> God<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Who told you that you were naked?<n id="2" /> Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?&#8221;<n id="3" />

So now, you are banished<n id="1" /> from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother&#8217;s blood from your hand.
