<p class="bodytext">Abraham<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Since I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty are found there?&#8221; He replied, &#8220;I will not destroy it for the sake of the twenty.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Finally Abraham<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;May the Lord not be angry so that I may speak just once more. What if ten are found there?&#8221; He replied, &#8220;I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.&#8221;p>

Abraham said to his servant, the senior one<n id="1" /> in his household who was in charge of everything he had, &#8220;Put your hand under my thigh<n id="2" />

He prayed, &#8220;O <sc>Lordsc>, God of my master Abraham, guide me today.<n id="1" /> Be faithful<n id="2" /> to my master Abraham.

&#8220;Whose daughter are you?&#8221; he asked.<n id="1" /> &#8220;Tell me, is there room in your father&#8217;s house for us to spend the night?&#8221;p>

When I came to the spring today, I prayed, &#8216;O <sc>Lordsc>, God of my master Abraham, if you have decided to make my journey successful,<n id="1" /> may events unfold as follows:<n id="2" />

Here I am, standing by the spring.<n id="1" /> When<n id="2" /> the young woman goes out to draw water, I&#8217;ll say, &#8220;Give me a little water to drink from your jug.&#8221;

So Esau said to Jacob, &#8220;Feed<n id="1" /> me some of the red stuff &#8211; yes, this red stuff &#8211; because I&#8217;m starving!&#8221; (That is why he was also called<n id="2" /> Edom.)<n id="3" />p>

They replied, &#8220;We could plainly see<n id="1" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> is with you. So we decided there should be<n id="2" /> a pact between us<n id="3" /> &#8211; between us<n id="4" /> and you. Allow us to make<n id="5" /> a treaty with you

Then Isaac said to Jacob, &#8220;Come closer so I can touch you,<n id="1" /> my son, and know for certain if you really are my son Esau.&#8221;<n id="2" />

Rescue me,<n id="1" /> I pray, from the hand<n id="2" /> of my brother Esau,<n id="3" /> for I am afraid he will come<n id="4" /> and attack me, as well as the mothers with their children.<n id="5" />

<p class="bodytext">Then Jacob asked, &#8220;Please tell me your name.&#8221;<n id="1" /> &#8220;Why<n id="2" /> do you ask my name?&#8221; the man replied.<n id="3" /> Then he blessed<n id="4" /> Jacob<n id="5" /> there.

Please take my present<n id="1" /> that was brought to you, for God has been generous<n id="2" /> to me and I have all I need.&#8221;<n id="3" /> When Jacob urged him, he took it.<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">So Esau said, &#8220;Let me leave some of my men with you.&#8221;<n id="1" /> &#8220;Why do that?&#8221; Jacob replied.<n id="2" /> &#8220;My lord has already been kind enough to me.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">But Hamor made this appeal to them: &#8220;My son Shechem is in love with your daughter.<n id="1" /> Please give her to him as his wife.

So Jacob<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;Go now and check on<n id="2" /> the welfare<n id="3" /> of your brothers and of the flocks, and bring me word.&#8221; So Jacob<n id="4" /> sent him from the valley of Hebron.p>

Then they brought the special tunic to their father<n id="1" /> and said, &#8220;We found this. Determine now whether it is your son&#8217;s tunic or not.&#8221;p>

They told him, &#8220;We both had dreams,<n id="1" /> but there is no one to interpret them.&#8221; Joseph responded, &#8220;Don&#8217;t interpretations belong to God? Tell them<n id="2" /> to me.&#8221;p>

But remember me<n id="1" /> when it goes well for you, and show<n id="2" /> me kindness.<n id="3" /> Make mention<n id="4" /> of me to Pharaoh and bring me out of this prison,<n id="5" />
