And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of those who had investigated the land, tore their garments.

“‘And this will be your northern border: From the Great Sea you will draw a line to Mount Hor;

from Mount Hor you will draw a line to Lebo Hamath, ¹  and the direction of the border will be to Zedad.

Why ¹  have you brought us up from Egypt only to bring us to ²  this dreadful place? It is no place for grain, or figs, or vines, or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink!”

All those numbered of the camp of Dan are 157,600. They will travel last, under their standards.”

You must expel both men and women; you must put them outside the camp, so that ¹  they will not defile their camps, among which I live.”

When the cloud remained over the tabernacle many days, then the Israelites obeyed the instructions ¹  of the Lord and did not journey.

So Miriam was shut outside of the camp for seven days, and the people did not journey on until Miriam was brought back in. ¹ 

The men whom Moses sent to investigate the land, who returned and made the whole community murmur against him by producing ¹  an evil report about the land,

But two men remained in the camp; one’s name was Eldad, and the other’s name was Medad. And the spirit rested on them. (Now they were among those in the registration, ¹  but had not gone to the tabernacle.) So they prophesied in the camp.

Then they presented the Israelites with a discouraging ¹  report of the land they had investigated, saying, “The land that we passed through ²  to investigate is a land that devours ³  its inhabitants. ⁴  All the people we saw there ⁵  are of great stature.

If a man ¹  makes a vow ²  to the Lord or takes an oath ³  of binding obligation on himself, ⁴  he must not break his word, but must do whatever he has promised. ⁵ 

‘Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, ¹  not ²  one of the men twenty years old and upward ³  who came from Egypt will see the land that I swore to give ⁴  to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,

They traveled from the Red Sea and camped in the wilderness of Zin.

They traveled from Rephidim and camped in the wilderness of Sinai.

They traveled from the desert of Sinai and camped at Kibroth Hattaavah.

All those numbered of the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, are 186,400. They will travel ¹  at the front.

All those numbered of the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, are 151,450. They will travel second.

All those numbered of the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions, are 108,100. They will travel third.

“Command the Israelites to expel ¹  from the camp every leper, ²  everyone who has a discharge, ³  and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse. ⁴
