When some of the bystanders heard it they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!” ¹ 

Now ¹  when evening had already come, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath), ² 

Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He ¹  called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time.

He proclaimed, ¹  “One more powerful than I am is coming after me; I am not worthy ²  to bend down and untie the strap ³  of his sandals.

He ¹  said, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God ²  is near. Repent and believe the gospel!”

Then ¹  he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?” But they were silent.

But no one is able to enter a strong man’s ¹  house and steal his property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can thoroughly plunder his house. ² 

And he said to them, “Take care about what you hear. The measure you use will be the measure you receive, ¹  and more will be added to you.

Now ¹  the herdsmen ran off and spread the news in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.

Immediately Jesus ¹  made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dispersed the crowd.

For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ ¹  and, ‘Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to death.’ ² 

Then ¹  Jesus ²  went out again from the region of Tyre ³  and came through Sidon ⁴  to the Sea of Galilee in the region of the Decapolis. ⁵ 

In those days there was another large crowd with nothing to eat. So ¹  Jesus ²  called his disciples and said to them,

Six days later ¹  Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John and led them alone up a high mountain privately. And he was transfigured before them, ² 

So ¹  Peter said to Jesus, ²  “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters ³  – one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

The disciples were astonished at these words. But again Jesus said to them, ¹  “Children, how hard it is ²  to enter the kingdom of God!

but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give. It is for those for whom it has been prepared.” ¹ 

They came again to Jerusalem. ¹  While Jesus ²  was walking in the temple courts, ³  the chief priests, the experts in the law, ⁴  and the elders came up to him

Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” ¹  And they were utterly amazed at him.

In his teaching Jesus ¹  also said, “Watch out for the experts in the law. ²  They like walking ³  around in long robes and elaborate greetings ⁴  in the marketplaces,
