<t /><p class="bodytext">They went through the region of Phrygia<n id="1" /> and Galatia,<n id="2" /> having been prevented<n id="3" /> by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message<n id="4" /> in the province of Asia.<n id="5" />

and from there to Philippi,<n id="1" /> which is a leading city of that district<n id="2" /> of Macedonia,<n id="3" /> a Roman colony.<n id="4" /> We stayed in this city for some days.

At<n id="1" /> that hour of the night he took them<n id="2" /> and washed their wounds;<n id="3" /> then<n id="4" /> he and all his family<n id="5" /> were baptized right away.<n id="6" />

The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The magistrates have sent orders<n id="2" /> to release you. So come out now and go in peace.&#8221;<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">So Paul stood<n id="1" /> before the Areopagus and said, &#8220;Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious<n id="2" /> in all respects.<n id="3" />

For in him we live and move about<n id="1" /> and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, &#8216;For we too are his offspring.&#8217;<n id="2" />

But some people<n id="1" /> joined him<n id="2" /> and believed. Among them<n id="3" /> were Dionysius, who was a member of the Areopagus,<n id="4" /> a woman<n id="5" /> named Damaris, and others with them.p>

The Lord said to Paul by a vision<n id="1" /> in the night,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Do not be afraid,<n id="3" /> but speak and do not be silent,

because I am with you, and no one will assault<n id="1" /> you to harm<n id="2" /> you, because I have many people in this city.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, arrived in Ephesus.<n id="1" /> He was an eloquent speaker,<n id="2" /> well-versed<n id="3" /> in the scriptures.

But Paul went down,<n id="1" /> threw himself<n id="2" /> on the young man,<n id="3" /> put his arms around him,<n id="4" /> and said, &#8220;Do not be distressed, for he is still alive!&#8221;<n id="5" />

serving the Lord with all humility<n id="1" /> and with tears, and with the trials that happened to me because of the plots<n id="2" /> of the Jews.

And now,<n id="1" /> compelled<n id="2" /> by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem<n id="3" /> without knowing what will happen to me there,<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;And now<n id="1" /> I know that none<n id="2" /> of you among whom I went around proclaiming the kingdom<n id="3" /> will see me<n id="4" /> again.

When Paul<n id="1" /> had greeted them, he began to explain<n id="2" /> in detail<n id="3" /> what God<n id="4" /> had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

(For they had seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him previously, and<n id="1" /> they assumed Paul had brought him into the inner temple courts.)<n id="2" />

and saw the Lord<n id="1" /> saying to me, &#8216;Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.&#8217;

he said, &#8220;I will give you a hearing<n id="1" /> when your accusers arrive too.&#8221; Then<n id="2" /> he ordered that Paul<n id="3" /> be kept under guard in Herod&#8217;s palace.<n id="4" />p>

other than<n id="1" /> this one thing<n id="2" /> I shouted out while I stood before<n id="3" /> them: &#8216;I am on trial before you today concerning the resurrection of the dead.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

a promise<n id="1" /> that our twelve tribes hope to attain as they earnestly serve God<n id="2" /> night and day. Concerning this hope the Jews are accusing me,<n id="3" /> Your Majesty!<n id="4" />
