The army was in position &#8211; the main army north of the city and the rear guard west of the city. That night Joshua went into<n id="1" /> the middle of the valley.p>

The leaders then added,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Let them live.&#8221; So they became<n id="2" /> woodcutters and water carriers for the whole community, as the leaders had decided.<n id="3" />p>

Now you are condemned to perpetual servitude as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.&#8221;<n id="1" />

and that day made them woodcutters and water carriers for the community and for the altar of the <sc>Lordsc> at the divinely chosen site. (They continue in that capacity to this very day.)<n id="1" />p>

It turned westward to Aznoth Tabor, extended from there to Hukok, touched Zebulun on the south, Asher on the west, and the Jordan<n id="1" /> on the east.

He said to her, &#8220;Give me a little water to drink, because I&#8217;m thirsty.&#8221; She opened a goatskin container of milk and gave him some milk to drink. Then she covered him up again.

<p class="bodytext">As they were going up the ascent to the town, they met some girls coming out to draw water. They said to them, &#8220;Is this where the seer is?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then they found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David. They gave him bread to eat and water to drink.

For the <sc>Lordsc> gave me strict orders,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Do not eat or drink<n id="2" /> there and do not go home the way you came.&#8217;&#8221;

But he replied, &#8220;I can&#8217;t go back with you<n id="1" /> or eat and drink<n id="2" /> with you in this place.

So the kings of Israel, Judah, and Edom<n id="1" /> set out together. They wandered around on the road for seven days and finally ran out of water for the men and animals they had with them.

for this is what the <sc>Lordsc> says, &#8216;You will not feel<n id="1" /> any wind or see any rain, but this valley will be full of water and you and your cattle and animals will drink.&#8217;

<p class="bodytext">Sure enough, the next morning, at the time of the morning sacrifice, water came flowing down from Edom and filled the land.<n id="1" />
