We sailed slowly<n id="1" /> for many days and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus.<n id="2" /> Because the wind prevented us from going any farther,<n id="3" /> we sailed under the lee<n id="4" /> of Crete off Salmone.<n id="5" />

<p class="bodytext">When the fourteenth night had come, while we were being driven<n id="1" /> across the Adriatic Sea,<n id="2" /> about midnight the sailors suspected they were approaching some land.<n id="3" />

Paul said to the centurion<n id="1" /> and the soldiers, &#8220;Unless these men stay with the ship, you<n id="2" /> cannot be saved.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Now in the region around that place<n id="1" /> were fields belonging to the chief official<n id="2" /> of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us hospitably as guests for three days.

let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ<n id="1" /> the Nazarene whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands before you healthy.

Suddenly<n id="1" /> an angel of the Lord<n id="2" /> appeared, and a light shone in the prison cell. He struck<n id="3" /> Peter on the side and woke him up, saying, &#8220;Get up quickly!&#8221; And the chains fell off Peter&#8217;s<n id="4" /> wrists.<n id="5" />

&#8220;I am a Jew,<n id="1" /> born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up<n id="2" /> in this city, educated with strictness<n id="3" /> under<n id="4" /> Gamaliel<n id="5" /> according to the law of our ancestors,<n id="6" /> and was<n id="7" /> zealous<n id="8" /> for God just as all of you are today.

To the same apostles<n id="1" /> also, after his suffering,<n id="2" /> he presented himself alive with many convincing proofs. He was seen by them over a forty-day period<n id="3" /> and spoke about matters concerning the kingdom of God.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Men of Israel,<n id="1" /> listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man clearly attested to you by God with powerful deeds,<n id="2" /> wonders, and miraculous signs<n id="3" /> that God performed among you through him, just as you yourselves know &#8211;

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Brothers,<n id="1" /> I can speak confidently<n id="2" /> to you about our forefather<n id="3" /> David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

Peter said to them, &#8220;Repent, and each one of you be baptized<n id="1" /> in the name of Jesus Christ<n id="2" /> for<n id="3" /> the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.<n id="4" />

But Peter said, &#8220;I have no silver or gold,<n id="1" /> but what I do have I give you. In the name<n id="2" /> of Jesus Christ<n id="3" /> the Nazarene, stand up and<n id="4" /> walk!&#8221;

You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors,<n id="1" /> saying to Abraham, &#8216;<b><i>And in your descendantsi>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>all the nationsi>b><n id="3" /> <b><i>of the earth will be blessedi>b>.&#8217;<n id="4" />

When they heard this, they raised their voices to God with one mind<n id="1" /> and said, &#8220;Master of all,<n id="2" /> you who made the heaven, the earth,<n id="3" /> the sea, and everything that is in them,

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;For indeed both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, assembled together in this city against<n id="1" /> your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,<n id="2" />

When<n id="1" /> they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken,<n id="2" /> and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak<n id="3" /> the word of God<n id="4" /> courageously.<n id="5" />p>

After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census,<n id="1" /> and incited people to follow him in revolt.<n id="2" /> He too was killed, and all who followed him were scattered.

The word of God continued to spread,<n id="1" /> the number of disciples in Jerusalem<n id="2" /> increased greatly, and a large group<n id="3" /> of priests became obedient to the faith.p>

Then he went out from the country of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After his father died, God<n id="1" /> made him move<n id="2" /> to this country where you now live.

He<n id="1" /> did not give any of it to him for an inheritance,<n id="2" /> not even a foot of ground,<n id="3" /> yet God<n id="4" /> promised <i>to give it to him as his possession, and to his descendants after himi>,<n id="5" /> even though Abraham<n id="6" /> as yet had no child.
