<p class="bodytext">When they came to the threshing floor of Atad<n id="1" /> on the other side of the Jordan, they mourned there with very great and bitter sorrow.<n id="2" /> There Joseph observed a seven day period of mourning for his father.

So Moses thought,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I will turn aside to see<n id="2" /> this amazing<n id="3" /> sight. Why does the bush not burn up?&#8221;<n id="4" />

There will be a great cry throughout the whole land of Egypt, such as there has never been,<n id="1" /> nor ever will be again.<n id="2" />

When Israel saw<n id="1" /> the great power<n id="2" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> had exercised<n id="3" /> over the Egyptians, they<n id="4" /> feared the <sc>Lordsc>, and they believed in<n id="5" /> the <sc>Lordsc> and in his servant Moses.<n id="6" />p>

<p class="poetry">Fear and dread<n id="1" /> will fall<n id="2" /> on them;p> <p class="poetry">by the greatness<n id="3" /> of your arm they will be as still as stone<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">until<n id="5" /> your people pass by, O <sc>Lordsc>,p> <p class="poetry">until the people whom you have bought<n id="6" /> pass by.p>

<p class="bodytext">Moses said to Aaron, &#8220;What did this people do to you, that you have brought on them so great a sin?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">The next day Moses said to the people,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You have committed a very serious sin,<n id="2" /> but now I will go up to the <sc>Lordsc> &#8211; perhaps I can make atonement<n id="3" /> on behalf of your sin.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">So Moses returned to the <sc>Lordsc> and said, &#8220;Alas, this people has committed a very serious sin,<n id="1" /> and they have made for themselves gods of gold.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;You<n id="1" /> must not deal unjustly in judgment:<n id="2" /> you must neither show partiality to the poor nor honor the rich.<n id="3" /> You must judge your fellow citizen fairly.<n id="4" />

But<n id="1" /> the inhabitants<n id="2" /> are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.

In fact, what other great nation has a god so near to them like the <sc>Lordsc> our God whenever we call on him?

And what other great nation has statutes and ordinances as just<n id="1" /> as this whole law<n id="2" /> that I am about to share with<n id="3" /> you today?p>

From heaven he spoke to you in order to teach you, and on earth he showed you his great fire from which you also heard his words.<n id="1" />

Moreover, because he loved<n id="1" /> your ancestors, he chose their<n id="2" /> descendants who followed them and personally brought you out of Egypt with his great power

to dispossess nations greater and stronger than you and brought you here this day to give you their land as your property.<n id="1" />

But now, why should we die, because this intense fire will consume us! If we keep hearing the voice of the <sc>Lordsc> our God we will die!

and who brought you through the great, fearful desert of venomous serpents<n id="1" /> and scorpions, an arid place with no water. He made water flow<n id="2" /> from a flint rock and

They include the Anakites,<n id="1" /> a numerous<n id="2" /> and tall people whom you know about and of whom it is said, &#8220;Who is able to resist the Anakites?&#8221;

He is the one you should praise;<n id="1" /> he is your God, the one who has done these great and awesome things for you that you have seen.

then the <sc>Lordsc> will increase your punishments and those of your descendants &#8211; great and long-lasting afflictions and severe, enduring illnesses.
