It will be the most insignificant of the kingdoms; it will never again exalt itself over the nations. I will make them so small that they will not rule over the nations.

It will never again be Israel&#8217;s source of confidence, but a reminder of how they sinned by turning to Egypt for help.<n id="1" /> Then they will know that I am the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>.&#8217;&#8221;p>

<p class="poetry">When I extinguish you, I will cover the sky;p> <p class="poetry">I will darken its stars.p> <p class="poetry">I will cover the sun with a cloud,p> <p class="poetry">and the moon will not shine.<n id="1" />p>

but there is one who hears the sound of the trumpet yet does not heed the warning. Then the sword comes and sweeps him away. He will be responsible for his own death.<n id="1" />

He heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, so he is responsible for himself.<n id="1" /> If he had heeded the warning, he would have saved his life.

When I say to the wicked, &#8216;O wicked man, you must certainly die,&#8217;<n id="1" /> and you do not warn<n id="2" /> the wicked about his behavior,<n id="3" /> the wicked man will die for his iniquity, but I will hold you accountable for his death.<n id="4" />

But if you warn the wicked man to change his behavior,<n id="1" /> and he refuses to change,<n id="2" /> he will die for his iniquity, but you have saved your own life.p>

He<n id="1" /> returns what was taken in pledge, pays back what he has stolen, and follows the statutes that give life,<n id="2" /> committing no iniquity. He will certainly live &#8211; he will not die.

Therefore, as surely as I live, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, I will subject you to bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.

So this is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: I vow<n id="1" /> that the nations around you will endure insults as well.p>

I will lead people, my people Israel, across you; they will possess you and you will become their inheritance. No longer will you bereave them of their children.p>

I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and multiply it; I will not bring a famine on you.
