When the residents of Gibeon heard what Joshua did to Jericho 1 and Ai,
David did just as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
“Come to my aid 1 so we can attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and the Israelites.”
Joshua conquered the area between Kadesh Barnea and Gaza and the whole region of Goshen, all the way to Gibeon. 1
So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel in Gibeon during the battle.

All Jerusalem was terrified 1 because Gibeon was a large city, like one of the royal cities. It was larger than Ai and all its men were warriors.
So Joab and Abishai chased Abner. At sunset they came to the hill of Ammah near Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.
