The gatekeepers relayed the news to the royal palace. ¹ 

The king went up to the Lord’s temple, accompanied by all the people of Judah, all the residents of Jerusalem, the priests, and the prophets. All the people were there, from the youngest to the oldest. He read aloud ¹  all the words of the scroll of the covenant that had been discovered in the Lord’s temple.

He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord and committed the same horrible sins practiced by the nations ²  whom the Lord drove out from before the Israelites.

He took the officers of the units of hundreds, the Carians, the royal bodyguard, and all the people of land, and together they led the king down from the Lord’s temple. They entered the royal palace through the Gate of the Royal Bodyguard, ¹  and the king ²  sat down on the royal throne.

The captain of the royal guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah, the priest who was second in rank, and the three doorkeepers.

Nebuzaradan, the captain of the royal guard, deported the rest of the people who were left in the city, those who had deserted to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the craftsmen. ¹

So the Lord announced through ¹  his servants the prophets:

He moved the bronze altar that stood in the Lord’s presence from the front of the temple (between the altar and the Lord’s temple) and put it on the north side of the new ¹  altar.

The Babylonians broke the two bronze pillars in the Lord’s temple, as well as the movable stands and the big bronze basin called the “The Sea.” ¹  They took the bronze to Babylon.

The whole Babylonian army that came with the captain of the royal guard tore down the walls that surrounded Jerusalem.

By the ninth day of the fourth month ¹  the famine in the city was so severe the residents ²  had no food.

Have any of the gods of the nations actually rescued his land from the power of the king of Assyria? ¹ 

When Athaliah heard the royal guard ¹  shout, she joined the crowd ²  at the Lord’s temple.

When the king heard the words of the law scroll, he tore his clothes.

Hezekiah gave him all the silver in ¹  the Lord’s temple and in the treasuries of the royal palace.
