When ¹  you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,

Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. And some slapped him,

And he was transfigured before them. ¹  His ²  face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.

When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground. ¹ 

“See that you do not disdain one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Going a little farther, he threw himself down with his face to the ground and prayed, ¹  “My Father, if possible, ²  let this cup ³  pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

“When ¹  you fast, do not look sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces unattractive ²  so that people will see them fasting. I tell you the truth, ³  they have their reward.

This is the one about whom it is written: ‘Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, ¹  who will prepare your way before you.’ ² 

and in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ ¹  You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, ²  but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.

“But woe to you, experts in the law ¹  and you Pharisees, hypocrites! ²  You keep locking people out of the kingdom of heaven! ³  For you neither enter nor permit those trying to enter to go in.

His ¹  appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worship ¹  me.”

But I say to you, do not resist the evildoer. ¹  But whoever strikes you on the ²  right cheek, turn the other to him as well.

Then the slave threw himself to the ground ¹  before him, saying, ²  ‘Be patient with me, and I will repay you everything.’

Then his fellow slave threw himself down and begged him, ¹  ‘Be patient with me, and I will repay you.’

As they came into the house and saw the child with Mary his mother, they bowed down ¹  and worshiped him. They opened their treasure boxes and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, ²  and myrrh. ³
