How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?”

Should you not have shown mercy to your fellow slave, just as I showed it to you?’

The disciples asked him, ¹  “Why then do the experts in the law ²  say that Elijah must come first?”

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. Make sure that you are not alarmed, for this must happen, but the end is still to come. ¹ 

Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, ¹  and on my return I would have received my money back with interest! ² 

Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all the disciples said the same thing.

From that time on ¹  Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem ²  and suffer ³  many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, ⁴  and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

“Woe to you, experts in the law ¹  and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You give a tenth ²  of mint, dill, and cumin, ³  yet you neglect what is more important in the law – justice, mercy, and faithfulness! You ⁴  should have done these things without neglecting the others.
