So they took away<n id="1" /> the stone. Jesus looked upward<n id="2" /> and said, &#8220;Father, I thank you that you have listened to me.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">Then they<n id="1" /> shouted out, &#8220;Away with him! Away with him!<n id="2" /> Crucify<n id="3" /> him!&#8221; Pilate asked,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Shall I crucify your king?&#8221; The high priests replied, &#8220;We have no king except Caesar!&#8221;

Jesus said to him, &#8220;Stand up! Pick up your mat<n id="1" /> and walk.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">So the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> said to the man who had been healed, &#8220;It is the Sabbath, and you are not permitted to carry your mat.&#8221;<n id="2" />

They asked him, &#8220;Who is the man who said to you, &#8216;Pick up your mat<n id="1" /> and walk&#8217;?&#8221;<n id="2" />

Then they picked up<n id="1" /> stones to throw at him,<n id="2" /> but Jesus hid himself and went out from the temple area.<n id="3" />p>

I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe<n id="1" /> from the evil one.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">On the next day John<n id="1" /> saw Jesus coming toward him and said, &#8220;Look, the Lamb of God<n id="2" /> who takes away the sin of the world!

To those who sold the doves he said, &#8220;Take these things away from here! Do not make<n id="1" /> my Father&#8217;s house a marketplace!&#8221;<n id="2" />

Immediately the man was healed,<n id="1" /> and he picked up his mat<n id="2" /> and started walking. (Now that day was a Sabbath.)<n id="3" />p>

But he answered them, &#8220;The man who made me well said to me, &#8216;Pick up your mat<n id="1" /> and walk.&#8217;&#8221;

Jesus said, &#8220;Take away the stone.&#8221;<n id="1" /> Martha, the sister of the deceased,<n id="2" /> replied, &#8220;Lord, by this time the body will have a bad smell,<n id="3" /> because he has been buried<n id="4" /> four days.&#8221;<n id="5" />

If we allow him to go on in this way,<n id="1" /> everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away our sanctuary<n id="2" /> and our nation.&#8221;p>

He takes away<n id="1" /> every branch that does not bear<n id="2" /> fruit in me. He<n id="3" /> prunes<n id="4" /> every branch that bears<n id="5" /> fruit so that it will bear more fruit.

They said<n id="1" /> to her, &#8220;Woman,<n id="2" /> why are you weeping?&#8221; Mary replied,<n id="3" /> &#8220;They have taken my Lord away, and I do not know where they have put him!&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus (but secretly, because he feared the Jewish leaders<n id="1" />),<n id="2" /> asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. Pilate<n id="3" /> gave him permission, so he went and took the body away.<n id="4" />

No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down<n id="1" /> of my own free will.<n id="2" /> I have the authority<n id="3" /> to lay it down, and I have the authority<n id="4" /> to take it back again. This commandment<n id="5" /> I received from my Father.&#8221;p>

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> surrounded him and asked,<n id="2" /> &#8220;How long will you keep us in suspense?<n id="3" /> If you are the Christ,<n id="4" /> tell us plainly.&#8221;<n id="5" />

So also you have sorrow<n id="1" /> now, but <i>I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from youi>.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now very early on the first day of the week,<n id="1" /> while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene<n id="2" /> came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been moved away from the entrance.<n id="3" />
