An ¹  angel of the Lord, ²  standing on the right side of the altar of incense, appeared ³  to him.

The chief priests and the experts in the law ¹  were there, vehemently accusing him. ² 

But ¹  he knew ²  their thoughts, ³  and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Get up and stand here.” ⁴  So ⁵  he rose and stood there.

So ¹  he was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”

She ¹  came up behind Jesus ²  and touched the edge ³  of his cloak, ⁴  and at once the bleeding ⁵  stopped.

But when Jesus discerned their innermost thoughts, ¹  he took a child, had him stand by ²  his side,

So ¹  Jesus stopped and ordered the beggar ²  to be brought to him. When the man ³  came near, Jesus ⁴  asked him,

Then ¹  he said to them, “What are these matters ²  you are discussing so intently ³  as you walk along?” And they stood still, looking sad.

While they were saying these things, Jesus ¹  himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” ² 

Now ¹  Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, ²  and the crowd was pressing around him ³  to hear the word of God.

He ¹  saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.

Then ¹  he came up ²  and touched ³  the bier, ⁴  and those who carried it stood still. He ⁵  said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”

But I tell you most certainly, ¹  there are some standing here who will not ²  experience ³  death before they see the kingdom of God.” ⁴ 

So ¹  if ²  Satan too is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? I ask you this because ³  you claim that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.

But stay alert at all times, ¹  praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that must ²  happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

And all those who knew Jesus ¹  stood at a distance, and the women who had followed him from Galilee saw ²  these things.

Then ¹  the devil ²  brought him to Jerusalem, ³  had him stand ⁴  on the highest point of the temple, ⁵  and said to him, “If ⁶  you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

As ¹  she stood ²  behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. She ³  wiped them with her hair, ⁴  kissed ⁵  them, ⁶  and anointed ⁷  them with the perfumed oil.

The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself like this: ¹  ‘God, I thank ²  you that I am not like other people: ³  extortionists, ⁴  unrighteous people, ⁵  adulterers – or even like this tax collector. ⁶ 

The tax collector, however, stood ¹  far off and would not even look up ²  to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, be merciful ³  to me, sinner that I am!’ ⁴
