They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds<n id="1" /> regarded him as a prophet.p>

The<n id="1" /> rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.

They<n id="1" /> planned to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and gently took her by the hand, and the girl got up.

For Herod had arrested John, bound him,<n id="1" /> and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip&#8217;s wife,

(Now the betrayer<n id="1" /> had given them a sign, saying, &#8220;The one I kiss is the man.<n id="2" /> Arrest him!&#8221;)<n id="3" />

Jesus<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;Friend, do what you are here to do.&#8221; Then they came and took hold<n id="2" /> of Jesus and arrested him.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now the ones who had arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, in whose house<n id="1" /> the experts in the law<n id="2" /> and the elders had gathered.

But<n id="1" /> Jesus met them, saying, &#8220;Greetings!&#8221; They<n id="2" /> came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him.

He said to them, &#8220;Would not any one of you, if he had one sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, take hold of it and lift it out?

After<n id="1" /> he went out, that same slave found one of his fellow slaves who owed him one hundred silver coins.<n id="2" /> So<n id="3" /> he grabbed him by the throat and started to choke him,<n id="4" /> saying, &#8216;Pay back what you owe me!&#8217;<n id="5" />

At that moment Jesus said to the crowd, &#8220;Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me like you would an outlaw?<n id="1" /> Day after day I sat teaching in the temple courts, yet<n id="2" /> you did not arrest me.
