For they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.” ¹ 

They ¹  continued to stone Stephen while he prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”

When both the Gentiles and the Jews (together with their rulers) made ¹  an attempt to mistreat ²  them and stone them, ³
