They were distressed, and one by one said to him, “Surely not I?”

Do you not know that we will judge angels? Why not ordinary matters!

A spring does not pour out fresh water and bitter water from the same opening, does it?

You will recognize them by their fruit. Grapes are not gathered ¹  from thorns or figs from thistles, are they? ² 

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”

They ¹  became greatly distressed ²  and each one began to say to him, “Surely not I, Lord?”

He also told them a parable: “Someone who is blind cannot lead another who is blind, can he? ¹  Won’t they both fall ²  into a pit?

Then ¹  Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus ²  replied, “You have said it yourself.”

He also said to them, “A lamp ¹  isn’t brought to be put under a basket ²  or under a bed, is it? Isn’t it to be placed on a lampstand?

“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Surely he can’t be the Messiah, ¹  can he?” ² 

So the Jewish leaders ¹  began to say, ²  “Perhaps he is going to kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’”

Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? ¹  Your own people ²  and your chief priests handed you over ³  to me. What have you done?”

“No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, ¹  can he?” ² 

I urged Titus to visit you ¹  and I sent our ²  brother along with him. Titus did not take advantage of you, did he? ³  Did we not conduct ourselves in the same spirit? Did we not behave in the same way? ⁴ 

Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test! ¹ 

Do not deprive each other, except by mutual agreement for a specified time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. ¹  Then resume your relationship, ²  so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Therefore when I was planning to do this, I did not do so without thinking about what I was doing, did I? ¹  Or do I make my plans ²  according to mere human standards ³  so that I would be saying ⁴  both “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time?

But he said to them, “You ¹  give them something to eat.” They ²  replied, ³  “We have no more than five loaves and two fish – unless ⁴  we go ⁵  and buy food ⁶  for all these people.”
