He addressed<n id="1" /> both Jews and Greeks in the synagogue<n id="2" /> every Sabbath, attempting to persuade<n id="3" /> them.p>

Because he could not be persuaded,<n id="1" /> we said no more except,<n id="2" /> &#8220;The Lord&#8217;s will be done.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

Agrippa<n id="1" /> said to Paul, &#8220;In such a short time are you persuading me to become a Christian?&#8221;<n id="2" />

Some were convinced<n id="1" /> by what he said,<n id="2" /> but others refused<n id="3" /> to believe.

But the centurion<n id="1" /> was more convinced<n id="2" /> by the captain<n id="3" /> and the ship&#8217;s owner than by what Paul said.<n id="4" />

and they summoned the apostles and had them beaten.<n id="1" /> Then<n id="2" /> they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.

<p class="bodytext">But Jews came from Antioch<n id="1" /> and Iconium,<n id="2" /> and after winning<n id="3" /> the crowds over, they stoned<n id="4" /> Paul and dragged him out of the city, presuming him to be dead.

<t /><p class="bodytext">So Paul<n id="1" /> entered<n id="2" /> the synagogue<n id="3" /> and spoke out fearlessly<n id="4" /> for three months, addressing<n id="5" /> and convincing<n id="6" /> them about the kingdom of God.<n id="7" />

For some time ago<n id="1" /> Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men joined him. He<n id="2" /> was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and nothing came of it.<n id="3" />

After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census,<n id="1" /> and incited people to follow him in revolt.<n id="2" /> He too was killed, and all who followed him were scattered.

<p class="bodytext">Now Herod<n id="1" /> was having an angry quarrel<n id="2" /> with the people of Tyre<n id="3" /> and Sidon.<n id="4" /> So they joined together<n id="5" /> and presented themselves before him. And after convincing<n id="6" /> Blastus, the king&#8217;s personal assistant,<n id="7" /> to help them,<n id="8" /> they asked for peace,<n id="9" /> because their country&#8217;s food supply was provided by the king&#8217;s country.

When the meeting of the synagogue<n id="1" /> had broken up,<n id="2" /> many of the Jews and God-fearing proselytes<n id="3" /> followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking with them and were persuading<n id="4" /> them<n id="5" /> to continue<n id="6" /> in the grace of God.p>

Some of them were persuaded<n id="1" /> and joined Paul and Silas, along with a large group<n id="2" /> of God-fearing Greeks<n id="3" /> and quite a few<n id="4" /> prominent women.

And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded<n id="1" /> and turned away<n id="2" /> a large crowd,<n id="3" /> not only in Ephesus<n id="4" /> but in practically all of the province of Asia,<n id="5" /> by saying<n id="6" /> that gods made by hands are not gods at all.<n id="7" />

For the king knows about these things, and I am speaking freely<n id="1" /> to him,<n id="2" /> because I cannot believe<n id="3" /> that any of these things has escaped his notice,<n id="4" /> for this was not done in a corner.<n id="5" />

So do not let them persuade you to do this,<n id="1" /> because more than forty of them<n id="2" /> are lying in ambush<n id="3" /> for him. They<n id="4" /> have bound themselves with an oath<n id="5" /> not to eat or drink anything<n id="6" /> until they have killed him, and now they are ready, waiting for you to agree to their request.&#8221;<n id="7" />

<p class="bodytext">They set<n id="1" /> a day to meet with him,<n id="2" /> and they came to him where he was staying<n id="3" /> in even greater numbers.<n id="4" /> From morning until evening he explained things<n id="5" /> to them,<n id="6" /> testifying<n id="7" /> about the kingdom of God<n id="8" /> and trying to convince<n id="9" /> them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets.
