When his accusers stood up, they did not charge<n id="1" /> him with any of the evil deeds I had suspected.<n id="2" />

But the evil spirit replied to them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I know about Jesus<n id="2" /> and I am acquainted with<n id="3" /> Paul, but who are you?&#8221;<n id="4" />

But the Jews became jealous,<n id="1" /> and gathering together some worthless men from the rabble in the marketplace,<n id="2" /> they formed a mob<n id="3" /> and set the city in an uproar.<n id="4" /> They attacked Jason&#8217;s house,<n id="5" /> trying to find Paul and Silas<n id="6" /> to bring them out to the assembly.<n id="7" />

But just as Paul was about to speak,<n id="1" /> Gallio said to the Jews, &#8220;If it were a matter of some crime or serious piece of villainy,<n id="2" /> I would have been justified in accepting the complaint<n id="3" /> of you Jews,<n id="4" />

so that when even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his body<n id="1" /> were brought<n id="2" /> to the sick, their diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.<n id="3" />

But some itinerant<n id="1" /> Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name<n id="2" /> of the Lord Jesus over those who were possessed by<n id="3" /> evil spirits, saying, &#8220;I sternly warn<n id="4" /> you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.&#8221;

Then the man who was possessed by<n id="1" /> the evil spirit jumped on<n id="2" /> them and beat them all into submission.<n id="3" /> He prevailed<n id="4" /> against them so that they fled from that house naked and wounded.

They replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;We have received no letters from Judea about you, nor have any of the brothers come from there<n id="2" /> and reported or said anything bad about you.
