The ¹  Pharisee was astonished when he saw that Jesus ²  did not first wash his hands ³  before the meal.

He ¹  sent messengers on ahead of him. ²  As they went along, ³  they entered a Samaritan village to make things ready in advance ⁴  for him,

And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired ¹  to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

This is the one about whom it is written, ‘Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, ¹  who will prepare your way before you.’ ² 

At ¹  the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given by the angel ²  before he was conceived in the womb.

After this ¹  the Lord appointed seventy-two ²  others and sent them on ahead of him two by two into every town ³  and place where he himself was about to go.

But before all this, ¹  they will seize ²  you and persecute you, handing you over to the synagogues ³  and prisons. You ⁴  will be brought before kings and governors because of my name.
