The officers replied, “No one ever spoke like this man!”

like the accounts ¹  passed on ²  to us by those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the word ³  from the beginning. ⁴ 

One ¹  should think about us this way – as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Then the squad of soldiers ¹  with their commanding officer ²  and the officers of the Jewish leaders ³  arrested ⁴  Jesus and tied him up. ⁵ 

But the officers ¹  who came for them ²  did not find them in the prison, so they returned and reported, ³ 

But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest’s courtyard. After ¹  going in, he sat with the guards ²  to see the outcome.

Then ¹  he rolled up ²  the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on ³  him.

The Pharisees ¹  heard the crowd ²  murmuring these things about Jesus, ³  so the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers ⁴  to arrest him. ⁵ 

Then the officers ¹  returned ²  to the chief priests and Pharisees, ³  who said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him back with you?” ⁴ 

So Judas obtained a squad of soldiers ¹  and some officers of the chief priests and Pharisees. ²  They came to the orchard ³  with lanterns ⁴  and torches and weapons.

When Jesus ¹  had said this, one of the high priest’s officers who stood nearby struck him on the face and said, ²  “Is that the way you answer the high priest?”

Then the commander ¹  of the temple guard ²  went with the officers ³  and brought the apostles ⁴  without the use of force ⁵  (for they were afraid of being stoned by the people). ⁶ 

When ¹  they arrived ²  in Salamis, ³  they began to proclaim ⁴  the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. ⁵  (Now they also had John ⁶  as their assistant.) ⁷ 

Reach agreement ¹  quickly with your accuser while on the way to court, ²  or he ³  may hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the warden, and you will be thrown into prison.

And Peter had followed him from a distance, up to the high priest’s courtyard. He ¹  was sitting with the guards ²  and warming himself by the fire.

Then ¹  some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to strike him with their fists, saying, “Prophesy!” The guards also took him and beat ²  him.

(Now the slaves ¹  and the guards ²  were standing around a charcoal fire they had made, warming themselves because it was cold. ³  Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.) ⁴ 

When the chief priests and their officers saw him, they shouted out, “Crucify ¹  him! Crucify him!” ²  Pilate said, ³  “You take him and crucify him! ⁴  Certainly ⁵  I find no reason for an accusation ⁶  against him!”

But get up and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for this reason, to designate you in advance ¹  as a servant and witness ²  to the things ³  you have seen ⁴  and to the things in which I will appear to you.

Jesus replied, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my servants would be fighting to keep me from being ¹  handed over ²  to the Jewish authorities. ³  But as it is, ⁴  my kingdom is not from here.”
