But reject foolish and ignorant<n id="1" /> controversies, because you know they breed infighting.<n id="2" />

You know<n id="1" /> that such a person is twisted by sin<n id="2" /> and is conscious of it himself.<n id="3" />p>

When Jesus saw their reaction he said, &#8220;Why do you respond with evil in your hearts?

But when Jesus discerned their innermost thoughts,<n id="1" /> he took a child, had him stand by<n id="2" /> his side,

<p class="bodytext">Then Jesus, because he knew everything that was going to happen to him,<n id="1" /> came and asked them, &#8220;Who are you looking for?&#8221;<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">After this Jesus, realizing that by this time<n id="1" /> everything was completed,<n id="2" /> said (in order to fulfill the scripture),<n id="3" /> &#8220;I am thirsty!&#8221;<n id="4" />

You, however, must continue<n id="1" /> in the things you have learned and are confident about. You know<n id="2" /> who taught you<n id="3" />

Since I was confident that you would obey, I wrote to you, because I knew that you would do even more than<n id="1" /> what I am asking you to do.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> one of the experts in the law<n id="2" /> came and heard them debating. When he saw that Jesus<n id="3" /> answered them well, he asked him, &#8220;Which commandment is the most important of all?&#8221;

But Jesus,<n id="1" /> realizing their thoughts, said to them,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Every kingdom divided against itself is destroyed,<n id="3" /> and a divided household falls.<n id="4" />

When Jesus was aware<n id="1" /> that his disciples were complaining<n id="2" /> about this, he said to them, &#8220;Does this cause you to be offended?<n id="3" />

Because Jesus<n id="1" /> knew that the Father had handed all things over to him,<n id="2" /> and that he had come from God and was going back to God,

So then, because<n id="1" /> he was a prophet and knew that God <i>had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendantsi><n id="2" /> <i>on his thronei>,<n id="3" />

And now,<n id="1" /> compelled<n id="2" /> by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem<n id="3" /> without knowing what will happen to me there,<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Then Felix,<n id="1" /> who understood the facts<n id="2" /> concerning the Way<n id="3" /> more accurately,<n id="4" /> adjourned their hearing,<n id="5" /> saying, &#8220;When Lysias the commanding officer comes down, I will decide your case.&#8221;<n id="6" />

realizing that law<n id="1" /> is not intended for a righteous person, but for lawless and rebellious people, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,

since I know that my tabernacle will soon be removed,<n id="1" /> because<n id="2" /> our Lord Jesus Christ revealed this to me.<n id="3" />

Now when Jesus<n id="1" /> realized what they were thinking, he said to them,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Every kingdom divided against itself is destroyed,<n id="3" /> and no town or house divided against itself will stand.

because Herod stood in awe of<n id="1" /> John and protected him, since he knew that John<n id="2" /> was a righteous and holy man. When Herod<n id="3" /> heard him, he was thoroughly baffled,<n id="4" /> and yet<n id="5" /> he liked to listen to John.<n id="6" />p>

But he saw through their hypocrisy and said<n id="1" /> to them, &#8220;Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius<n id="2" /> and let me look at it.&#8221;
