For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing –

And I hope that you will realize that we have not failed the test! ¹ 

I do not mean that we rule over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy, because by faith you stand firm. ¹ 

Not that we are adequate ¹  in ourselves to consider anything as if it were coming from ourselves, but our adequacy ²  is from God,

just as also you have partly understood us, that we are your source of pride just as you also are ours ¹  in the day of the Lord Jesus. ² 

For we are not like so many others, hucksters who peddle the word of God for profit, ¹  but we are speaking in Christ before ²  God as persons of sincerity, ³  as persons sent from God.

Let such a person consider this: What we say ¹  by letters when we are absent, we also are in actions when we are present.

And what mutual agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are ¹  the temple of the living God, just as God said, “I will live in them ²  and will walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” ³
