Send them away so that they can go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy something for themselves to eat.”

“I have compassion on the crowd, because they have already been here with me three days, and they have nothing to eat.

In those days there was another large crowd with nothing to eat. So ¹  Jesus ²  called his disciples and said to them,

Then Jesus, when he looked up ¹  and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where can we buy bread so that these people may eat?”

Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s residence. ¹  (Now it was very early morning.) ²  They ³  did not go into the governor’s residence ⁴  so they would not be ceremonially defiled, but could eat the Passover meal.

Then Jesus called the ¹  disciples and said, “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have already been here with me three days and they have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry since they may faint on the way.”
