The<n id="1" /> Pharisee was astonished when he saw that Jesus<n id="2" /> did not first wash his hands<n id="3" /> before the meal.

I was circumcised on the eighth day, from the people of Israel and the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews. I lived according to the law as a Pharisee.<n id="1" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">As he spoke,<n id="1" /> a Pharisee<n id="2" /> invited Jesus<n id="3" /> to have a meal with him, so he went in and took his place at the table.<n id="4" />

&#8220;Two men went up<n id="1" /> to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee<n id="2" /> and the other a tax collector.<n id="3" />

They know,<n id="1" /> because they have known<n id="2" /> me from time past,<n id="3" /> if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party<n id="4" /> of our religion, I lived as a Pharisee.<n id="5" />

But a Pharisee<n id="1" /> whose name was Gamaliel,<n id="2" /> a teacher of the law who was respected by all the people, stood up<n id="3" /> in the council<n id="4" /> and ordered the men to be put outside for a short time.

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this,<n id="1" /> he said to himself, &#8220;If this man were a prophet,<n id="2" /> he would know who and what kind of woman<n id="3" /> this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.&#8221;

The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself like this:<n id="1" /> &#8216;God, I thank<n id="2" /> you that I am not like other people:<n id="3" /> extortionists,<n id="4" /> unrighteous people,<n id="5" /> adulterers &#8211; or even like this tax collector.<n id="6" />

<p class="bodytext">Then when Paul noticed<n id="1" /> that part of them were Sadducees<n id="2" /> and the others Pharisees,<n id="3" /> he shouted out in the council,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. I am on trial concerning the hope of the resurrection<n id="5" /> of the dead!&#8221;
