Thus<n id="1" /> we are writing these things so that<n id="2" /> our<n id="3" /> joy may be complete.<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Everyone who practices sin<n id="1" /> also practices lawlessness;<n id="2" /> indeed,<n id="3" /> sin is lawlessness.

because all that is in the world (the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced by material possessions)<n id="1" /> is not from the Father, but is from the world.

because<n id="1" /> everyone<n id="2" /> who has been fathered by God<n id="3" /> conquers<n id="4" /> the world.<n id="5" />p><t /><p class="bodytext">This<n id="6" /> is the conquering power<n id="7" /> that has conquered<n id="8" /> the world: our faith.

And this is the testimony: God<n id="1" /> has given us eternal life,<n id="2" /> and this life is in his Son.

<t /><p class="bodytext">For<n id="1" /> this is the gospel<n id="2" /> message<n id="3" /> that you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another,<n id="4" />

Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God,

What we have seen and heard we announce<n id="1" /> to you too, so that<n id="2" /> you may have fellowship<n id="3" /> with us (and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ).

<p class="bodytext">Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning.<n id="1" /> The old commandment is the word that you have already<n id="2" /> heard.

<p class="bodytext">If we accept the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, because<n id="1" /> this<n id="2" /> is the testimony of God that<n id="3" /> he has testified concerning his Son.

If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin,<n id="1" /> we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Now this<n id="1" /> is the promise that he<n id="2" /> himself made to<n id="3" /> us: eternal life.<n id="4" />

The one who says &#8220;I have come to know God&#8221;<n id="1" /> and yet does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in such a person.

But whoever obeys his<n id="1" /> word, truly in this person<n id="2" /> the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him.

<p class="bodytext">Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,

And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains<n id="1" /> forever.p>

that<n id="1" /> if our conscience condemns<n id="2" /> us, that<n id="3" /> God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.

<p class="bodytext">You are from God, little children, and have conquered them,<n id="1" /> because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

No one has seen God at any time.<n id="1" /> If we love one another, God resides<n id="2" /> in us, and his love is perfected in us.<n id="3" />

For<n id="1" /> this is the love of God:<n id="2" /> that we keep his commandments.<n id="3" /> And his commandments do not weigh us down,
