It was the day of preparation<n id="1" /> and the Sabbath was beginning.<n id="2" />

It will be the same on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

They will flog him severely<n id="1" /> and kill him. Yet<n id="2" /> on the third day he will rise again.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then the day for the feast<n id="1" /> of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now on<n id="1" /> the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a large crowd met him.

I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom<n id="1" /> than for that town!<n id="2" />p>

but on the day Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.<n id="1" />

and said to them, &#8220;Thus it stands written that the Christ<n id="1" /> would suffer<n id="2" /> and would rise from the dead on the third day,

<p class="bodytext">On<n id="1" /> the eighth day<n id="2" /> they came to circumcise the child, and they wanted to name<n id="3" /> him Zechariah after his father.

When<n id="1" /> morning came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles:<n id="2" />

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Which of you, if you have a son<n id="2" /> or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?&#8221;

saying, &#8220;If you had only known on this day,<n id="1" /> even you, the things that make for peace!<n id="2" /> But now they are hidden<n id="3" /> from your eyes.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;But be on your guard<n id="1" /> so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly like a trap.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law.<n id="1" /> Then<n id="2" /> they led Jesus<n id="3" /> away to their council<n id="4" />

That very day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other,<n id="1" /> for prior to this they had been enemies.<n id="2" />p>

that<n id="1" /> the Son of Man must be delivered<n id="2" /> into the hands of sinful men,<n id="3" /> and be crucified,<n id="4" /> and on the third day rise again.&#8221;<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> that very day two of them<n id="2" /> were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles<n id="3" /> from Jerusalem.<n id="4" />

but they urged him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening and the day is almost done.&#8221; So<n id="2" /> he went in to stay with them.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> came to Nazareth,<n id="3" /> where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue<n id="4" /> on the Sabbath day, as was his custom.<n id="5" /> He<n id="6" /> stood up to read,<n id="7" />

Rejoice in that day, and jump for joy, because<n id="1" /> your reward is great in heaven. For their ancestors<n id="2" /> did the same things to the prophets.<n id="3" />p>
