Jesus began to say to them, &#8220;Watch out<n id="1" /> that no one misleads you.

Then the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to release a prisoner for them, as was his custom.<n id="1" />

He spoke openly about this. So<n id="1" /> Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

<p class="bodytext">Peter began to speak to him, &#8220;Look,<n id="1" /> we have left everything to follow you!&#8221;<n id="2" />

He took Peter, James,<n id="1" /> and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders, &#8220;This man is one of them.&#8221;

Then he began to curse, and he swore with an oath, &#8220;I do not know this man you are talking about!&#8221;

So<n id="1" /> he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis<n id="2" /> what Jesus had done for him,<n id="3" /> and all were amazed.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Jesus<n id="1" /> called the twelve and began to send them out two by two. He gave them authority over the unclean spirits.<n id="2" />

As Jesus<n id="1" /> came ashore<n id="2" /> he saw the large crowd and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So<n id="3" /> he taught them many things.p>

When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to shout,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Jesus, Son of David,<n id="2" /> have mercy<n id="3" /> on me!&#8221;

But as the man<n id="1" /> went out he began to announce it publicly and spread the story widely, so that Jesus<n id="2" /> was no longer able to enter any town openly but stayed outside in remote places. Still<n id="3" /> they kept coming<n id="4" /> to him from everywhere.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Again he began to teach by the lake. Such a large crowd gathered around him that he got into a boat on the lake and sat there while<n id="1" /> the whole crowd was on the shore by the lake.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer<n id="3" /> many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law,<n id="4" /> and be killed, and after three days rise again.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> they came to Jerusalem.<n id="2" /> Jesus<n id="3" /> entered the temple area<n id="4" /> and began to drive out those who were selling and buying in the temple courts.<n id="5" /> He turned over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves,

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he began to speak to them in parables: &#8220;A man planted a vineyard.<n id="2" /> He put a fence around it, dug a pit for its winepress, and built a watchtower. Then<n id="3" /> he leased it to tenant farmers<n id="4" /> and went on a journey.

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue.<n id="1" /> Many who heard him were astonished, saying, &#8220;Where did he get these ideas?<n id="2" /> And what is this wisdom that has been given to him? What are these miracles that are done through his hands?

<t /><p class="bodytext">They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem.<n id="1" /> Jesus was going ahead of them, and they were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was going to happen to him.
