<t /><p class="bodytext">Now because Jesus was doing these things<n id="1" /> on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders<n id="2" /> began persecuting<n id="3" /> him.

Then the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> were astonished<n id="2" /> and said, &#8220;How does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?&#8221;<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> picked up rocks again to stone him to death.

Thus the people who had come to mourn<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Look how much he loved him!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">So then the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> responded,<n id="2" /> &#8220;What sign can you show us, since you are doing these things?&#8221;<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">So the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> said to the man who had been healed, &#8220;It is the Sabbath, and you are not permitted to carry your mat.&#8221;<n id="2" />

So the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> were looking for him at the feast, asking, &#8220;Where is he?&#8221;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Then the Judeans<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;You are not yet fifty years old!<n id="3" /> Have<n id="4" /> you seen Abraham?&#8221;

The disciples replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Rabbi, the Jewish leaders<n id="2" /> were just now trying<n id="3" /> to stone you to death! Are<n id="4" /> you going there again?&#8221;

Then the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;This temple has been under construction<n id="2" /> for forty-six years,<n id="3" /> and are you going to raise it up in three days?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus<n id="1" /> began complaining about him because he said, &#8220;I am the bread that came down from heaven,&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus<n id="1" /> began to argue with one another,<n id="2" /> &#8220;How can this man<n id="3" /> give us his flesh to eat?&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">After this<n id="1" /> Jesus traveled throughout Galilee.<n id="2" /> He<n id="3" /> stayed out of Judea<n id="4" /> because the Jewish leaders<n id="5" /> wanted<n id="6" /> to kill him.

So the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> began to say,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Perhaps he is going to kill himself, because he says, &#8216;Where I am going you cannot come.&#8217;&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">The Judeans<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Aren&#8217;t we correct in saying<n id="3" /> that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?&#8221;<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Now the Jewish religious leaders<n id="1" /> refused to believe<n id="2" /> that he had really been blind and had gained his sight until at last they summoned<n id="3" /> the parents of the man who had become able to see.<n id="4" />

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;We are not going to stone you for a good deed<n id="3" /> but for blasphemy,<n id="4" /> because<n id="5" /> you, a man, are claiming to be God.&#8221;<n id="6" />p>

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;We have a law,<n id="3" /> and according to our law he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God!&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> this was<n id="2" /> John&#8217;s<n id="3" /> testimony<n id="4" /> when the Jewish leaders<n id="5" /> sent<n id="6" /> priests and Levites from Jerusalem<n id="7" /> to ask him, &#8220;Who are you?&#8221;<n id="8" />

So the Samaritan woman said to him, &#8220;How can you &#8211; a Jew<n id="1" /> &#8211; ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water<n id="2" /> to drink?&#8221; (For Jews use nothing in common<n id="3" /> with Samaritans.)<n id="4" />p>
