He was in the world, and the world was created ¹  by him, but ²  the world did not recognize ³  him.

If you belonged to the world, ¹  the world would love you as its own. ²  However, because you do not belong to the world, ³  but I chose you out of the world, for this reason ⁴  the world hates you. ⁵ 

“If the world hates you, be aware ¹  that it hated me first. ² 

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, ¹  but that the world should be saved through him.

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it that its deeds are evil.

Thus the Pharisees ¹  said to one another, “You see that you can do nothing. Look, the world has run off after him!”

In a little while ¹  the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.

but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may know ¹  that I love the Father. ²  Get up, let us go from here.” ³ 

Righteous Father, even if the world does not know you, I know you, and these men ¹  know that you sent me.

the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, ¹  because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides ²  with you and will be ³  in you.

“Peace I leave with you; ¹  my peace I give to you; I do not give it ²  to you as the world does. ³  Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage. ⁴ 

I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  you will weep ²  and wail, ³  but the world will rejoice; you will be sad, ⁴  but your sadness will turn into ⁵  joy.

I have given them your word, ¹  and the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world, ²  just as I do not belong to the world. ³ 

that they will all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray ¹  that they will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me.

I in them and you in me – that they may be completely one, ¹  so that the world will know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me.
