So the last will be first, and the first last.”p>

The<n id="1" /> robbers who were crucified with him also spoke abusively to him.<n id="2" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then John&#8217;s<n id="1" /> disciples came to Jesus<n id="2" /> and asked, &#8220;Why do we and the Pharisees<n id="3" /> fast often,<n id="4" /> but your disciples don&#8217;t fast?&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now the ones who had arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, in whose house<n id="1" /> the experts in the law<n id="2" /> and the elders had gathered.

<p class="poetry">&#8220;Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.p>

When<n id="1" /> they saw him, they worshiped him,<n id="2" /> but some doubted.<n id="3" />

When<n id="1" /> Jesus heard this he said, &#8220;Those who are healthy don&#8217;t need a physician, but those who are sick do.<n id="2" />

Then the disciples came to him and said, &#8220;Do you know that when the Pharisees<n id="1" /> heard this saying they were offended?&#8221;

They answered, &#8220;Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah,<n id="1" /> and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.&#8221;

When<n id="1" /> the chief priests and the Pharisees<n id="2" /> heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.

<t /><p class="bodytext">The<n id="1" /> next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees<n id="2" /> assembled before Pilate

The crowds that went ahead of him and those following kept shouting,<n id="1" /> &#8220;<i>Hosannai><n id="2" /> to the Son of David! <b><i>Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!i>b><n id="3" /> <i>Hosannai> in the highest!&#8221;

In<n id="1" /> everything, treat others as you would want them<n id="2" /> to treat you,<n id="3" /> for this fulfills<n id="4" /> the law and the prophets.p>

And the men<n id="1" /> were amazed and said,<n id="2" /> &#8220;What sort of person is this? Even the winds and the sea obey him!&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

But when the Pharisees<n id="1" /> saw this they said to him, &#8220;Look, your disciples are doing what is against the law to do on the Sabbath.&#8221;

The disciples asked him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Why then do the experts in the law<n id="2" /> say that Elijah must come first?&#8221;

But Jesus called them and said, &#8220;You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.
