But when he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he did not respond.

In ¹  the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ²  and elders ³  – were mocking him: ⁴ 

After ¹  they had assembled with the elders and formed a plan, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,

“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their ¹  hands when they eat.” ² 

From that time on ¹  Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem ²  and suffer ³  many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, ⁴  and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

While he was still speaking, Judas, ¹  one of the twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and elders of the people.
