When ¹  you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,

When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground. ¹ 

Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. And some slapped him,

And he was transfigured before them. ¹  His ²  face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.

and in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ ¹  You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, ²  but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.

“See that you do not disdain one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Going a little farther, he threw himself down with his face to the ground and prayed, ¹  “My Father, if possible, ²  let this cup ³  pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

They sent to him their disciples along with the Herodians, ¹  saying, “Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. ²  You do not court anyone’s favor because you show no partiality. ³
