<p class="bodytext">The following Levites prepared to carry out the king&#8217;s orders:<n id="1" />p> <p class="bodytext">From the Kohathites: Mahath son of Amasai and Joel son of Azariah;p> <p class="bodytext">from the Merarites: Kish son of Abdi and Azariah son of Jehallelel;p> <p class="bodytext">from the Gershonites: Joah son of Zimmah and Eden son of Joah;p>

Then in the midst of the assembly, the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s Spirit came upon Jachaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph.

<p class="bodytext">In the seventh year Jehoiada made a bold move. He made a pact<n id="1" /> with the officers of the units of hundreds: Azariah son of Jehoram, Ishmael son of Jehochanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zikri.

So some of<n id="1" /> the Ephraimite family leaders, Azariah son of Jehochanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, Jechizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai confronted<n id="2" /> those returning from the battle.

<p class="bodytext">Rehoboam married<n id="1" /> Mahalath the daughter of David&#8217;s son Jerimoth and of<n id="2" /> Abihail, the daughter of Jesse&#8217;s son Eliab.

He offered sacrifices in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom and passed his sons through the fire,<n id="1" /> a horrible sin practiced by the nations<n id="2" /> whom the <sc>Lordsc> drove out before the Israelites.

Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his master.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Later the Moabites and Ammonites, along with some of the Meunites,<n id="1" /> attacked Jehoshaphat.

The conspirators were Zabad son of Shimeath (an Ammonite woman) and Jehozabad son of Shimrith (a Moabite woman).p>

<p class="bodytext">from the descendants of Elizaphan: Shimri and Jeiel;p> <p class="bodytext">from the descendants of Asaph: Zechariah and Mattaniah;p>

<p class="bodytext">from the descendants of Heman: Jehiel and Shimei;p> <p class="bodytext">from the descendants of Jeduthun: Shemaiah and Uzziel.p>

But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, was in front of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s tabernacle.<n id="1" /> Solomon and the entire assembly prayed to him<n id="2" /> there.)

Their descendants remained in the land (the Israelites were unable to wipe them out). Solomon conscripted them for his work crews and they continue in that role to this very day.<n id="1" />

That day<n id="1" /> the Israelites were defeated; the men of Judah prevailed because they relied on the <sc>Lordsc> God of their ancestors.p>

Then some Levites, from the Kohathites and Korahites, got up and loudly praised the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel.<n id="1" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">His brothers, Jehoshaphat&#8217;s sons, were Azariah, Jechiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael, and Shephatiah. All of these were sons of King Jehoshaphat of Israel.<n id="1" />

Jehoiada and his sons led out the king&#8217;s son and placed on him the crown and the royal insignia.<n id="1" /> They proclaimed him king and poured olive oil on his head.<n id="2" /> They declared, &#8220;Long live the king!&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">The list of Joash&#8217;s<n id="1" /> sons, the many prophetic oracles pertaining to him, and the account of his building project on God&#8217;s temple are included in the record of the Scroll of the Kings.<n id="2" /> His son Amaziah replaced him as king.p>

<p class="bodytext">After King Amaziah of Judah consulted with his advisers,<n id="1" /> he sent this message to the king of Israel, Joash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, &#8220;Come, face me on the battlefield.&#8221;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">King Amaziah son of Joash of Judah lived for fifteen years after the death of King Joash son of Jehoahaz of Israel.
