You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will consume you.

So do not make the land vomit you out because you defile it ¹  just as it has vomited out the nations ²  that were before you.

I will scatter you among the nations and unsheathe the sword ¹  after you, so your land will become desolate and your cities will become a waste.

“‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things, for the nations which I am about to drive out before you ¹  have been defiled with all these things.

You must not walk in the statutes of the nation ¹  which I am about to drive out before you, because they have done all these things and I am filled with disgust against them.

“‘As for your male and female slaves ¹  who may belong to you – you may buy male and female slaves from the nations all around you. ² 

I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors ¹  whom I brought out from the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord.’”
