All that walk on their paws among all the creatures that walk on all fours ¹  are unclean to you. Anyone who touches their carcass will be unclean until the evening,

“‘If you walk in my statutes and are sure to obey my commandments, ¹ 

“‘If in spite of these things ¹  you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me, ² 

“‘If in spite of this ¹  you do not obey me but walk in hostility against me, ² 

“‘Every winged swarming thing that walks on all fours ¹  is detestable to you.

You must observe my regulations ¹  and you must be sure to walk in my statutes. ²  I am the Lord your God.

You must not go about as a slanderer among your people. ¹  You must not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is at stake. ²  I am the Lord.

I will walk among you, and I will be your God and you will be my people.

I myself will also walk in hostility against you and strike you ¹  seven times on account of your sins.

I will walk in hostile rage against you ¹  and I myself will also discipline you seven times on account of your sins.

You must not eat anything that crawls ¹  on its belly or anything that walks on all fours or on any number of legs ²  of all the swarming things that swarm on the land, because they are detestable.

You must not walk in the statutes of the nation ¹  which I am about to drive out before you, because they have done all these things and I am filled with disgust against them.

I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from being their slaves, ¹  and I broke the bars of your yoke and caused you to walk upright. ² 

“‘If you walk in hostility against me ¹  and are not willing to obey me, I will increase your affliction ²  seven times according to your sins.

However, when ¹  they confess their iniquity and their ancestors’ iniquity which they committed by trespassing against me, ²  by which they also walked ³  in hostility against me ⁴ 

(and I myself will walk in hostility against them and bring them into the land of their enemies), and ¹  then their uncircumcised hearts become humbled and they make up for ²  their iniquity,

However, this you may eat from all the winged swarming things that walk on all fours, which have jointed legs ¹  to hop with on the land.

You must not do as they do in the land of Egypt where you have been living, ¹  and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan into which I am about to bring you; ²  you must not ³  walk in their statutes.
